This invention relates to a pre-cast catch basin for a storm sewer.
In laying storm sewers, one of the more expensive items is the erection of catch basins for collecting water from the curb and conveying it to the sewer pipe. Conventional catch basins are either constructed of brick by high salaried brick masons or of concrete poured into forms erected by high salaried carpenters. Construction of either type of catch basin is time consuming and expensive.
It is, therefore, a major object of this invention to provide a catchbasin which may be erected in less time and more economicall than conventional catch basins.
More particularly, an object of the invention is to provide a catch basin composed of pre-cast elements which may be assembled by unskilled labor at the same time that the storm sewer is laid. Another object is to provide a catch basin composed of pre-cast components which can be connected to a storm sewer pipe running in any direction with respect to the street.
In accordance with these objects, certain features of the invention reside in the shape and arrangement of pre-cast concrete elements forming an inlet and lid assembly for the catch basin. For example, an important feature of the invention is the shape of a pre-cast concrete collarsection for the catch basin, which collar section includes a cylindrical portion with an upwardly projecting semi-cylindrical portion so the ends vention resides in the shape of an inlet section 'having a main portion with inwardly extending arms all of which rest upon the lower step of the collar section, with the arms abutting the shoulders. A fiat lid section rests upon the top surface of the semicircular portion of the collar section and upon the top surfaces of the arms of the inlet section. This is accomplished by having the arms of a height corresponding tothe height of the shoulders on the collar section. To permit the flow of water into the basin, the main portion of the inlet section is thinner than the arm portions and has a top surface sloping downwardly and inwardly.
Another important feature of the invention resides in the arrangement of a cylindrical catch basin to support on its top circular surface the bottom circular surface of the collar section, and

having a lateral opening in its side wall to accommodate a cylindrical sewer pipe. The cylinwith the pipe connected will support the collar section and the other parts properly positioned with respect to the adjoining street, gutter and curb.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following specification taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein Figure l is a perspective view of the inlet and lid assembly for a catch basin embodying the invention in its preferred form;
Fig. 2 is a vertical-section through a catch basin embodying the invention and including the inlet and lid assembly of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 3 is an exploded view showing in perspective the components forming the inlet and lid assembly of Fig. 1.
To support the catch basin, a fiat base or slab tioned on base II with its opening I3 facing any direction according to the direction in which pipe I4 is to be connected. The pipe l4 may be secured in the opening l3 by a thin layer of mortar l5.
Pro-cast cylindrical basin I2 has a circular top surface l6 upon which rests circular bottom surface ll of cylindrical portion l8 of pre-cast concrete collar section l9. This structure of the collar section l9 provides a stepped top surface, the lower step being its circular bottom surface resting upon the circular top surface of said basin and an integral semi-cylindrical upper portion having its exposed ends providing vertical shoulders extending upwardly from the exposed semi-circular top surface of said cylindrical portion to the semi-circular top surface of said semi-cylindrical portion, a pre-cast concrete inlet section including a main portion and integral arm portions extending inwardly from said main portion into engagement With said shoulders, the bottom surfaces of said arm portions being flush with the bottom surface of said main portion with each portion of said inlet section resting upon the semi-circular top surface of said cylindrical portion, the height of said arm portions corresponding to the height of said shoulders so that the top surfaces of said arm portions are flush withrthe semi-circular top surface of said semi-cylindrical portion, said main portion of said inlet section being thinner than said arm portions and having its top surface sloping downward'y and inwardly, and a flat lid section resting upon the top surfaces of said semi-cylindrical portion and said arm portions.

A catch basin for a storm sewer comprising a cylindrical pre-cast concrete basin adapted to stand on end on a fiat base and having its wall formed with a lateral opening to receive a cylindrical sewer pipe, a pre-cast concrete collar section including a cylindrical lower portion having its circular bottom surface resting upon the circular top surface of said basin and an integral semi-cylindrical upper portion having its exposed ends providing vertical shoulders extending upwardly from the exposed semi-circular top surface of said cylindrical portion to the semi-circular top surface of said semi-cylindrical portion, a pre-cast concrete inlet section including a main portion and integral arm portions extending inwardly from said main portion into engagement with said shoulders, the bottom surfaces of said arm portions being flush with the bottom surface of said main portion with each portion of said inlet section resting upon the semi-circular top surface of said cylindrical portion, the height of said arm portions corresponding to the height of said shoulders so that the top surfaces of saidarm portions are flush with the semi-circular top surface of said semi-cylindrical portion, said main portion of said inlet section being thinner than said arm portions and having its top surface sloping downwardly and inwardly, and a flat lid section resting upon the top surfaces of said semi-cylindrical portion and said arm portions, said inlet section having concave arcuate surfaces extending from the top surface of said main portion to the top surfaces of said arm portions, said lid having a rounded edge merging with said arcuate concave surfaces.
