HANGER FOR INSIDE BLINDS.

SPECIFCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 253,469, dated February '7, 1882.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES M. YOUNG, of the city ofLoekport, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Hanging and Operating Venetian Window-Shades and Movable Screens; and I do hereby declare th at vthe following is a full and exact description thereof, reference bein ghad to the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked there on, making apart of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in Venetian window-shades and it consists in a bent plate or casting which is secured to each end ot' the upper slat of the blind, and which has a triangular opening or slot in it, so as to catch over a suitable support which is applied to the inner slide of the window-frame, as will be more fully described hereinafter.

The object ot' my invention is to provide a hanger and attachments to Venetian windowshades or any other shades or screens which admit of their application, by means of which the said shades or screens can be suspended in such a manner that the slats, when closed and lapping upon each other, can be instantly and simultaneously reversed, so as to close and lap in the opposite direction, or made to open and lie horizontally for the admission of light or air by a slight turning of the lower bar or slat, or by a gentle pull up or down, as the case requires, on either ot' the tapes which support and keep the slats in posit-ion.

Fig. 2 represents an end view ofthe hanger with its bed-plate A, open slot B, and triangular portion C attached to the upper slat of the blind.

Fig. 3 represents one side ot' the windowcasing or screen-frame, with the pin or screw D in position to receive the hanger attached to the end of the strong upper slat, E, and a portion of said slat with hanger attached ready for being placed in position, both ends of the slat being entirely siniilar,wl1ieh operation can be performed either by holding the upper slat with itsfflat sides vertical and the open slots B of the hangers from the operator and passing them simultaneously upon. the pins or screws D, or by holding the slat, with hangers attached, with its flat sides horizontal, and raising it high enough for the open slot-s B to receive the pins orl screws D, and dropping the slat gently until the triangular portion of the hangers rests upon the pins or screws D, which completes the operation of hangin g the shade or screen. The shade or screen can readily be removed by a reverse movement of the strong upper slat, to which the hangers are attached. When once in position and ready for use it is entirely secure from being detached from the pins or screws D by practical use.

I am aware thatit is old to apply triangularshaped frames to the top of the top slat, and which frames have openings through their centers, so as to catch over suitable. hanging supports. My invention differs from this in attaching the plates or castings directly to the ends ofthe slats, and thus dispensing with the hanging supports, whereby the construction is cheapened, the blinds more easily operated, and the parts less liable to get out of repair.

\Vhat- I claim as my invention, and desire t0 secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A hanger for window-blinds, consisting ot' the plate A, bent at right angles, so as to be applied directly to the end ot the top slat, E, and having the slotted triangular end, B C, iu combination with the support D, placed inside of the window-trame, substantially as shown.

2. The combination ot' the plate A, having a slot, B, and triangular end C, and adapted to be fastened directly to the end of the slat E and project beyond its side, with'a support, D, secured to the inside ofthe frame, substantially as set forth.
