1 Claim. i
This invention appertains to improvements in surgical appliances and more particularly to a combination hot water bottle, ice bag and fountain syringe.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a compact ensemble of the above character, which can be readily used for any one of the named purposes, and which when not in use, can be reduced to a compact form for storage, in a very limited space.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a combination structure of the character stated wherein the parts are of simple construction and capable of being manufactured and retailed at a low monetary figure.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a combination surgical appliance of the character stated, capable of being easily manipulated and adjusted to suit the convenience of the user. I
A further object of the invention is to provide a structure, which is substantially foolproof in every respect and extremely durable.
These and various other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the structure in compact form;
Figure 2 is a sectional view, diametrically K through the structure, in compact form;
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the syringe tube carrier detached from the bag structure;
Figure 4 is a side elevational view with a portion in section, showing the bag structure detached from the carrier and with the tube and syringe nozzle attached;
Figure 5 is a fragmentary top plan view showing one of the carrier attaching fins.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 denotes a flexible bag of rubber or any other suitable material, the same being rather shallow and of ample diameter to cover a substantial wide area of treatment, when used as a hot water bottle or as an ice bag.
At one side of the bag 5 is an opening 6, from which a metal neck 1 protrudes, this neck being internally threaded to receive a plug 8 when the bag is closed for storage or when containing hot water for service as a hot water bottle or ice when being used as an ice bag.
At the opposite side of the bag 5, and projecting therefrom, beyond the periphery of the bag, and at diametrically opposite points, are fins 9,
2 9, each of which has the female part In, of a snap fastener, installed therein.
Referring now to Figure 4, it can be seen that numeral H denotes an elongated tube of rubber or some other suitable flexible material, having a coupling lug 12, at one end, externally threaded for disposition into the threaded neck I, as shown, and at its opposite end with a suitable syringe nozzle l3.
Figure 3, shows in side elevation, a carrier for the tube I I and nozzle l3 and this consists of an annulus is, suitably secured to a disc or bottom i5, from which a pair of fins l6, l5 project outwardly at diametrically opposite points thereof, and these fins i6 carry the male elements I! of the aforementioned snap fasteners, which coact with the female members H), to hold the carrier, snugly in position on the bag 5, as in the manner shown in Figure 2.
The top of the annulus M is opened, but bridged by a pair of stiff straps 18, of metal or any other stifi material, these straps being inclined from their outer ends, inwardly to their midpoints, so that the midpoint of this spider arrangement is raised, permitting easy insertion of the tube ll thereunder.
It can be seen in the use and operation of this structure, that when the carrier is in place on the bag 5, it can be readily detached by pulling the snap fastener element apart, and subsequently, the syringe nozzle Hi can be grasped and pulled outwardly, thus pulling the tube outwardly from under the spider straps IS. The adapter or coupling l2 can be attached to the neck 1, after water has been placed in the bag 5. The bag can then be used for syringing, douching or other purposes.
With the bag 5 detached from the carrier [4, the bag can be used as an ice bag, when filled with ice, when of course only the plug 8 will be used in conjunction therewith.
When the bag is not to be used and the ensemble stored away, the tube l l is detached from the bag 5 and the plug 8 inserted in the neck 1.
The coupling 12 is then inserted under the midportion of the spider straps l8, and the tube coiled into place as shown in Figure 1. Thus the structure will be reduced to a small size and can be stored in a small storage space.
While the foregoing description sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, as claimed hereinafter.
posed outwardly extending fins each provided 5 with a snap fastener element, comrpising a disc having diametrically opposed outwardly extending fins, each provided with a snap fastener element for engagement with one of the snap fastener elements carried by the bag, an annulus aflixed to the outer face of said disc, and a pair of diametrically extending straps of stiff material aflixed to the outer edge of said annulus, said straps being each perpendicular to the other and each of said straps being inclined outwardly to their midpoint, said straps being adapted to maintain said tube therein when the tube is not in use.
