Description

T. JONES 8v J.'KIEFER.
2 GLOVE-R HELLER. No. 252,223. Patented Jan. 10,1882.
WITNE8SES INVENTOR 2 M ATTORNEYS UNITED T STATES PATENT OFF'1 E.
THOMAS JONES AND ,JAOOB KIEFER, OF HIGHLAND, WISCONSIN.
I CLOVER-HULLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part' of Letters Patent No. 252,223, dated January 10, 1882.-
Application filed June 11, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, THOMAS JONES and J A0013 KIEFER, citizens of the United States, residents of Highland, in the county of Iowa and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new I and valuable Improvementin Glover-Hullers and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a longitudinal section of our invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
This invention has relation to clover-hullers and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the annexed drawings, the letter a represents the frame or casing of the huller, constructed and supported as usual. At one end, between the sides, is secured the concave case I), open at the top, and having at its, ends, on opposite sides, the recesses b, forming openings" into the case. This case is placed with a slight slant transversely of the frame or cas ing. Journaled within and lengthwise of this case is the hulling or breaking roller 0, provided with teeth 0'. J ournaled inside the frame or casing transversely, and close to case b, is the pressureroller d.
Arranged within and lvngth wise of the cas ing a is the riddle or shaker e, which is pivoted to rock-shafts beneath. This shaker has a slant downward toward the case b,and when in its lowermost position stops with its lower end just under the inner side of said case. The top of the riddle consists of transverse parallel slatsf, having a slant in the direction of that of the shaker, and forming intermediate spaces 9. Reciprocating longitudinal movement is given to the shaker by any suitable means. At the lower end of the shaker we securely fasten a screen, It, which is corrugated to fit the shaker-slats, and has at the bottom of its depressions l the perforations m, which latter, when the screen is in place; come over the spaces, g. One corner, n, of the screen is is cut off obliquely, and along the edge thus 'dle of the screen.
cated so as to slant from the middle of the board 19 has its outer and lower edge, q, situated close to the side of the casing or edge of the shaker and its other edge,r,near the mid- This guide-board p is 10- screen down toward the lower end of said screen, so that it will direct the clover from the edge to the middle, as hereinafter described. Only one guide-board is used, so as to leave a free passage beyond its inner end for the clover. For better security the guide-board has a rear brace, s.
As the clover passes from the case b it falls on the screen -covered portion of the shaker. The rollerdkeeps the mass down on the shaker, spreading it over the latter, and the guideboard 19 directs it toward the middle of the screen, whereby the clover receives a thorough sitting, the seed droppingthrough perforations m, and the cleaned heads pass off over the upper end of the shaker. The guide can be removed while thrashing other grain.
Hullers have been made with an oblique guide attached to the side of the box and projecting over the screen or shaker, and a grainseparater has been patented having V-shaped deflecting-flanges seen red to the shaker for con; ductingt-he grain to the edge of the said shaker. In our device the guideboard is fastened to the screen, moving therewith and preventing jamming, and extends toward thelower end of the shaker, from the middle to the edge", thereby conducting the clover iowa-rd the middle.
What we claim is- 1. In a clover-huller, the combination, with the hulling-cylinder c and concave b, the shakin g'carrier, and the deflector or guide-board p, of the intermediate pressure-roller,d, substantially as and for the purposes specitied.
2. In a clover-huller. the combination of the hullingcylinder 0 and concave 1), adapted to 3. In a clover-holler, the combination, with.
the shaker 0, having the open slotted surface, of the corrugated riddle or screen adapted to fit upon said shaker and formed with perfo- IOO rations in the bottoms of thecorrugations,sub- In, testimony that we claim the above We to stantially as and for the purposes specified. have hereunto, subscribed our names in the 4. In a clover-holler, the combination, with presence of two witnesses. the slotted shaker and the corrugated screen applied to the upper surface thereof, of the guide board 0, secured to the said shaker at p one side thereof and extending toward the midl Witnesses: dle of the screen, substantially as and for the HENRY HERMAN IMHOFF, purposes specified.
