SPECIFICATION forming part' of Letters Patent No. 252,223, dated January 10, 1882.-

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, THOMAS JONES and J A0013 KIEFER, citizens of the United States, residents of Highland, in the county of Iowa and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new I and valuable Improvementin Glover-Hullers and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same,reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a longitudinal section of our invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.

This invention has relation to clover-hullers and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the annexed drawings, the letter a represents the frame or casing of the huller, constructed and supported as usual. At one end, between the sides, is secured the concave case I), open at the top, and having at its, ends, on opposite sides, the recesses b, forming openings" into the case. This case is placed with a slight slant transversely of the frame or cas ing. Journaled within and lengthwise of this case is the hulling or breaking roller 0, provided with teeth 0'. J ournaled inside the frame or casing transversely, and close to case b, is the pressureroller d.

Arranged within and lvngth wise of the cas ing a is the riddle or shaker e, which is pivoted to rock-shafts beneath. This shaker has a slant downward toward the case b,and when in its lowermost position stops with its lower end just under the inner side of said case. The top of the riddle consists of transverse parallel slatsf, having a slant in the direction of that of the shaker, and forming intermediate spaces 9. As the clover passes from the case b it falls on the screen -covered portion of the shaker. The rollerdkeeps the mass down on the shaker, spreading it over the latter, and the guideboard 19 directs it toward the middle of the screen, whereby the clover receives a thorough sitting, the seed droppingthrough perforations m, and the cleaned heads pass off over the upper end of the shaker. The guide can be removed while thrashing other grain.

Hullers have been made with an oblique guide attached to the side of the box and projecting over the screen or shaker, and a grainseparater has been patented having V-shaped deflecting-flanges seen red to the shaker for con; ductingt-he grain to the edge of the said shaker.
