This. invention relates; in general to. slide fl as. teners, and more. particularly. to. the slider ele; ment which. constitutes. the. opening. and-. closing; member of such fasteners.

Referring first to Fig. 1, the slide fastener co n; prises a pair of tapes or stringers I, which are. provided along. their opposed fastening edgee with the. usual beaded or corded edges 1 on which are mounted a plurality of fastener elements 3.. These. are. of; conventional type and comprise heads. having interlocking means, such as, pro; jections on the upper side and recesses on the lower side, and having also outwardly extending jaws 4 which are clamped on the beaded edges 2. The interlocking elements 3 are engaged or disengaged in a well-known manner by means of a suitable slider member generally designated 5.

As shown in Fig. 5, the pointed ends of the detents penetrate into the corded edges 2 of the stringers to provide positive locking means of the slider 5 with respect to the fastener.
In order to disengage the locking member to enable the slider to be moved in either direction, preparatory to effecting engagement or disengagement of the interlocking elements 3 of the fastener, the pull tab 26 is moved upwardly to a substantially vertical position, as shown in Fig. 4, and in so doing the locking member [6 is rocked about its pivotal point I! to the raised position shown by the camming action of the pull tab armextensions. 21, 27. on, the locking member ring 24. so that-movement of the slider-is difiicult and' I sometimes impossible. With a slide member embodying my present'invention'iit is a simple matter to overcome the above mentioned diffrculty.v One or two turns of the post by means of the pull tab 26 causes a sufilcient separation between the upper and lower guide plates to effect easy removal of the lodged material; after which the guide plates are returned to their normal operative positions by turning the post in the opposite direction. In extreme cases the guide plates may be completely separated from each other and then reassembled for use in the usual manner. l
