This invention relates to a paper hangers paste bucket and has for its principal object the provision of a bucket which will have a rectangular upper portion so that wide, square paste brushes may be readily inserted and which will have a rounded lower portion so that the residual paste may be easily wiped from the bucket.

The usual paste bucket is round throughout its entire height. Due to this, the paste brushes must be inserted at the middle of the bucket to prevent the bristles from overhanging the sides thereof.

In this improved paste bucket the top opening is square so that the brush may be inserted close to the walls thereof and so that the brush may be wiped over the straight edge of the bucket to obtain a uniform wiping action through-out the entire width of the brush.

Another object oi' the invention is to provide a paper hangers paste bucket with means for supporting a paste brush thereon so that the brush will drain into the bucket and to so construct the brush supporting means that it will also serve as a bail for carrying the bucket.

Other objects and advantages reside in the detail construction of the invention, which is designed for simplicity, economy, and eiliciency.

VThese will become more apparent from the following description.

In the following detailed description of the I invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part hereof. Like numerals refer to like parts in all views of the drawing and throughout the description.

In the drawing:

Fig. 1 is a side view of the improved paper hangers bucket;

' Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof;

Fig. 3 is a side view of the bucket arranged for supporting a paste brush; and

Fig. 4 is a vertical section through the bucket taken on the line 4 4, Fig. 3.

The improved bucket is provided with a circular bottom I from which the bucket sides arise to a rectangular top frame member I I. In conforming to the round bottom I0 and the rectangular `top frame member II the sides are forced to assume four triangularflat portions I2 and four rounded triangular corner portions I3. The dat portions I2 decrease in width toward the bottom f of the bucket and the rounded portions I3 decrease in width as the top is approached. The

side material is rolled over the top frame Il to posite flat portions I 2 immediately below the top frame II and at the middle thereof. A carrying bail extends between the two brackets I5.

The bail consists of a U-shaped rectangularly bent middle portion I6 terminating in outwardly turned ends 22. The outwardly turned ends 22 are received in eyes I8 formed on hinged link portions I9. The extremities of the hinged link portions I9 terminate in hooks I1 which extend outwardly through the bail eye brackets I5.

The bead I4 and the top frame member I I are notched at opposite sid-es of the bucket as shown at 20, the notches being positioned substantially midway between the adjacent side of the bucket and the brackets I5. These notches are for the purpose of receiving the U -shaped middle portion I6 of the bail, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.

When in place in the notches 20 the middle portion I6 of the bail extends horizontally across the bucket adjacent and parallel to one edge thereof, to provide an eincent brush rest for supporting a paste brush 2| upon the bucket.

It can be readily seen that the brush 2I may be dipped into the bucket parallel to and close to the sides thereof due to the rectangular shape of the top frame I I. It can also be readily seen that the paste may be wiped from the bucket by simply wiping the brush around the circular bottom and around the rounded corner portions I3. The mid-` dle portion I6 of the bail also serves as an eilicient brush wiper.

While the invention has ben described as a paper hangers paste bucket, and while it is very useful for this particular purpose, it will also be found useful for other purposes such as painting, calcimining, whitewashing, etc. In fact, the bucket is useful for any use where a wide, rectangular top is desired for inserting relatively Wide brushes of any nature.

While a specific form of the improvement has been described and illustrated herein, it is desired to be understood that the same may be varied, within the scope of the appended claim, Without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired secured by Letters Patent is:

A bucket comprising a. body open yat its top and having walls and a bottom, brackets carried by the walls at `opposite sides of the body in opposed relation to each other, the walls of the body being formed with recesses leading from its upper edge and spaced transversely from' the brackets and located in opposed relation to each other between the brackets and one side of the body laterally of the brackets, and a bail consisting of a U-shaped handle portion formed with a straight bridge of a length greater than the distance between the recesses and side arms and connected with the brackets by links pivoted to the arms and the brackets, said bail being foldable from a raised position over the body to a lowered position disposing the handle portion in straddling relation to the bucket body with its bridge resting in said recesses and extending across the open top of the body in position to serve as a brush support.
