SHAMPOOING HEADREST Filed Jan. 24, 1947 Inventor Kermit @Sma/ls His fitzarney Patented July 25, 1950 UNITED 2,516,601 sHAMPoomG HEADREST Kermit 0. Smalls, Chicago, Ill., assignor to Grossberg Manufacturing Corporation, Chicago, 111.,
a corporation of Illinois Application January 24, 1947, Serial No. 723,933
3 Claims. 1
This invention relates to a shampooing head rest that is adapted to be positioned in a wash bowl While the shampooing or hair Washing operation is taking place and is designed to drain the water or fluid escaping from the hair into the bowl.
It is among the objects of this invention to provide a head rest with provision for firmly anchoring or securing the same in its associated relation with the wash bowl in order to prevent undue wobbling or canting when in use and which is so designed as to convey practically all of the used water or fluid into the bowl or basin so that very little can escape outside of the bowl and mess the floor.
The invention comprises the novel structure and combination of parts hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out and defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred form of this invention and in which similar reference numerals refer to similar features in the different views:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a shampooing head rest involving this invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken upon the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 IOOkil'lg in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 4 is a side elevational View of a wash bowl with my novel shampooing head rest positioned therein ready for use.
Referring now to the drawings, it will be observed that the preferred form of this invention comprises a single member 5 which may be made of aluminum or any suitable material. This member 5 is so shaped or designed as toprovide an intermediate seat 6 on its under side which is adapted to rest upon the front wall of the bowl and a pair of spaced forwardly extending lobes 1 which provide a recess 8 therebetween for receiving the neck of a person during a shampooing operation rearwardly of the seat 6, the member 5 slopes downwardly as indicated at da so that it will discharge near the bottom of the bowl. This sloping portion 5a terminates in an angular abutment or flange 9 adapted for engaging the inner rear wall 10a of the wash bowl In as shown in Fig. 4.
Adjacent the inner wall of the neck receiving recess 8, there is a downwardly extending and sloping anchor tongue I I that is adapted for embracing the outside front surface of the bowl H] as shown in Fig. 4 for anchoring the head rest in firm position against tilting or rocking movement when in use.
For guiding the water or fluid draining from the head rest when in use, the sides of the same are provided with suitable flanges I2. These flanges l2 extend continuously around the lobes 1 for guiding the water therefrom. The lobes 1 may be slightly depressed in the bottoms thereof and they are designed to catch the water flowing from the sides of the head.
It will be appreciated that this shampooing head rest can be used in the usual wash bowl in dwellings and will serve a very useful purpose in washing or shampooing an individuals hair. It will further be appreciated that the rest can easily be positioned in a bowl or removed therefrom.
I am aware'that many changes may be made and various details of construction modified without departing from the principles of this invention so I do not propose limiting the patent granted thereon otherwise than necessitated by the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A shampooing head rest comprising a neck receiving front portion having a substantially flat seat upon its bottom adjacent its inner end adapted for resting upon the top of a wash bowl wall, a downwardly inclined drain portion extending at an angle to the front portion and adapted for abutting the lower interior part of said bowl and a rearwardly inclined anchor tongue extending from the bottom of the front portion forwardly of said seat and adapted for engaging the outer surface of said bowl for anchoring the head rest in place with the front portion extending in a lateral direction.
2. A shampooing head rest comprising a neck receiving front portion having a seat at its bottom adjacent its inner end adapted for resting upon a wash bowl wall, a downwardly inclined drain portion extending at an angle to the front portion and having a stop flange upon its end and a rearwardly inclined anchor tongue extending from the bottom of said front portion forwardly of said seat and adapted for engaging the outer surface of said bowl for anchoring the head rest in place with the front portion extending at a small angle to a horizontal plane.
3. A shampooing head rest having a neck receiving front portion and a downwardly inclined drain portion extending at an angle to the front neck portion and adapted for abutting the bottom portion of a wash bowl, said front portion having a seat upon its bottom adjacent said inclined drain portion adapted for resting upon the top of a wash bowl wall, and a downwardly and rearwardly inclined anchor tongue extending from the bottom of said front portion at a point forward of said seat and adapted for engaging at its lower portion the outer surface of said wash bowl for anchoring the head rest thereto with the front portion extending in a lateral direction.
