Z'Claiins. (01. 40-68) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in means, auxiliary to a demonstration, whether given by a lecturer or a salesman, and it has in this connection for its purpose to provide a portable presentation easel which is so constructed that it may hold a considerable amount of demonstration material in the form of plates, or sheets of cardboard, which are readily accessible and changeable.

Another object of this invention is to provide means, whereby the display apparatus may be arranged on a stable base and at a height so that the matter displayed may be readily visible to an audience.

A further object of the invention is to provide an apparatus that is easily transportable, as said apparatus may be disconnected or taken apart.

A still further object of this invention is to provide an apparatus for the purpose set forth which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists OLE the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevational somewhat perspective view of my invention, showing a portable presentation easel.

Figure 2 is an elevational end view of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a view taken on the line 3-3 in Figure 2.

Figure 4 is a view taken on the line 4-4 in Figure 3.

Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view of an elongation of my device, as showing in Figure 4, providing for an upward extension of the top portion.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral Ill indicates a stand, the latter comprises a post II adjustably and detachably mounted on a base l2; vertically spaced plates [3 and I 3 are arranged on the post ll, said plates have mating longitudinal grooves I4, I4 in their opposed faces, in which slidingly to receive demonstration sheets or cardboards I5.

The base proper l2 consists of a substantially rectangular frame of a width to provide sufficient support to the rod carrying the easel and thereby preventing the latter from tipping over; the base l2, which may be provided With rubber suction cups n in order to lend further stability to the structure, has a centrally disposed bar I8 welded to the frame of the base l2, the bar l8 has a nut l9 welded thereto, said nut is formed with a threaded hole in the center thereof adapted to receive a correspondingly threaded tube 20, which at its bottom terminates in a lock nut 21 integral therewith, said nut having a knurled outer peripheral surface 40 in order to facilitate the dismantling of the device. The said lock nut will exert suiiicient aligning force to maintain the post II in a truly vertical position. A second tube 22 surrounds the tube 20 and rests upon the lock nut 2|. Said tube 22 is at its upper end provided with a plug 23 formed with a head 24 and groove 25 adapted to receive a dowel 26 in order to provide for interchangeability of the parts of various lengths constituting the post II.

The tube 22 serves as a support for the post I I which rotates on said support.

A collet flange 28, from which extends a chuck member 29, is secured to the lower plate l3 and attached thereto by screws 21. A taper nut 30 is mounted upon the said chuck member, to secure a frictional adjustment of said plate 13' in order to obtain different heights between the plates l3 and I3" for the accommodation of the display cards.

In order to extend the height of the stand the top plate is similarly constructed, as herein before set forth with respect to the lower plate; thus a collet flange 28' from which extends a chuck member 29' is secured to said upper plate l3 and attached thereto by screws 21'. A taper nut 30' is mounted upon said chuck member to secure a frictional adjustment of the plate I3.

The device may be dismantled for knock-down shipment by unscrewing the tube 20 from the nut l9.

It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not, therefore, wish to limit myself to the exact construction shown and described herein.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

1. In a device of the class described, a stand comprising a substantially rectangular base, a

cross bar arranged on said base, and a nut formed with a threaded opening and being secured to said cross bar, an inner short tube threaded in said opening, and a lock nut integral with said tube, a second tube surrounding said inner tube, and a hollow post rotatably mounted on the second tube, means arranged at the top of said second tube whereby to secure the latter to said post, plates mounted at the top and bottom of said post, said plates being provided with longitudinal grooves in their opposed faces, and means for securing said plates in predetermined positions.

2. In a device of the class described, a stand comprising a substantially rectangular base, a cross bar arranged on said base, and a nut formed with a threaded opening and being secured to said cross bar, an inner short tube threaded in said opening, and'a lock nut integral with said tube, a second tube surrounding said inner tube, and a hollow post rotatably mounted on the second tube, means arranged at the top of said second tube whereby to secure the latter tosaid post, plates mounted at the top and bottom of said post, said plates being provided with longitudinal grooves in their opposed faces, c01- 1et flanges and chuck members extending from the latter and being secured to said plates, and taper nuts mounted upon said chuck members, whereby to obtain frictional adjustments of the plates.
