RUBBER FOOTWEAR Filed July 13, 1948 INVEN'T'OR ATTORNEY.
Patented June 27, 1950 UNITED STATES PTENT OFFICE.
3 Claims.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in rubber footwear for protecting ones shoes from the weather.
It has for one of its objects to provide rubber footwear which is so designed and constructed as to securely and effectually retain the rubbers on sling type shoes or pumps.
Another object of the invention is to provide rubber footwear of this character having means formed integrally therewith for readily and detachably connecting the heel portion of the rubber to the ankle-strap of the shoe to positively retain the rubber thereon against slippage.
Other features reside in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved rubber applied to a shoe but prior to detachably connecting the same to the shoe-strap. Figure 2 is a similar perspective view showing the rubber connected to the shoe-strap. Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary rear view of the rubber. Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary cross section taken substantially in the plane of line 44, Figure 2.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
By way of example, my invention has been shown in connection with a womans shoe I?) known as a sling type pump which is open at the heel of the foot except for a rear strap ll built into the shoe and passing about the heel of the wearer for retaining it in place on the foot. It is practically impossible to retain an ordinary rubber on a shoe of this type because it constantly tends to slip off the heel of the shoe for lack of proper support.
It is my purpose to provide a rubber, particularly designed for this type of shoe, which will not slip but will be positively retained on the shoe. To this end it consists of a body I? of usual shape and contour to extend over the sole, toe and heel of the shoe as well as about the exposed portion of the heel of the wearer and terminating at its upper rear edge adjacent the shoe-strap II, as shown in Figures 1 and 4. Rising centrally from the rear-edge of its heel portion and preferably formed integrally therewith is a tongue-like tab or extension I3 which is of a length to extend above the shoe-strap and of a width to partially embrace the heel of the wearer. This extension converges upwardly and is adapted to be folded inwardly and downwardly upon itself in looplike fashion about the adjoining rear portion of the shoe-strap II and is detachably joined at its overlapping inner and outer ends by complemental snap fasteners I4, l5 applied to the extension in predetermined relation thereon. By preference, the base of the extension [3 below the intersecting plane of the strap has a transverse slot or opening It therein through which the free end of such extension, after being looped about the strap, is adapted to be passed, and after which such free end is snapped in place to thereby effectually retain the rubber on the shoe and afford real comfort and a sense of security to the wearer.
While manifestly simple and inexpensive in construction this improved rubber is not only easy to apply and remove but the feature of detachably connecting it to the strap of the sling pump positively retains the rubber in place on the shoe.
1 claim as my invention:
1. A rubber for footwear of the character described, comprising a shoe-engaging body having an extension rising from its heel portion and adapted to be detachably looped about the heelstrapof the shoe, said extension having an opening adjacent its lower portion with which the free end of the extension is adapted to engage.
2. A rubber for footwear of the character described, comprising a shoe-engaging body having an extension rising from its heel portion and adapted to be folded on itself for looping engagement with the heel-strap of the shoe, said extension having an opening therein adjacent its lower portion with which its free end is adapted to removably engage, and complemental fastening means at spaced points on said extension for detachably retaining it in looped relation with such strap.
3. A rubber, comprising a body shaped to lit the toe, sole and heel of a shoe, and a tab-like extension formed integrally with and rising from the heel end of said body and adapted to be folded downwardly upon itself in loop-like fashion, said extension being provided adjacent its lower portion with an opening and at spaced points thereof with complemental fastening elements for detachably connecting the extension in its folded position.
