Our present invention relates to a railwayvehicle bogie, on which the car body is supported by means of laterally disposed longitudinal and oscillatably suspended plate springs, and in which the space inside the frame and in the bogie centre portion may be kept free from bogie props, struts and guide parts.
Our invention consists in securing two oating beams or bolsters which are oscillatably suspended laterally on the bogie frame, to the ends of the longitudinally disposed plate springs, and in arranging the spring bands or buckles to permit same of swinging, relative to the car body, as a unit about a vertical axis disposed in the longitudinal median plane of the car body, and of guiding the said spring bands in a plane transversal to the said median plane.
An embodiment of the invention, in form of a triple-axle bogie, is shown in the drawing, in which:

The bogie frame I is resiliently supported on the boxes 2 of axles 3 through springs 34 guided on vertical pins 35i, the said boxes for such purpose being provided with lateral arms 2a. The sills 4 of bogie frame I are interconnected by transoms 5 on either side of the intermediate axle 3. Sills 4 and transoms 5 are formed as box girders.
A bolster or floating beam 6 each is suspended, fore and aft of the bogie-frame center, from the bogie frame by means of swing links l, i. e. laterally oscillatable. The bolsters B are provided with forked ends, and connected to the laterally disposed bearing springs by means of pins Il) threadedY through the forks 8 and the curled-over spring eyes of the plate springs 3.
The car-body I3, depending on both sides, supported on the spring bands or 'buckles S2. To permit frame i ci oscillating, relative to body i3, on a horizontal cross-axis, a cradle i5 having a cylindrical convex head and fastly secured to the spring band I2, is interposed into the said supporting arrangement. Spring band i2 is held longitudinally immovable, relative to the bogie frame I, by means of a tie Il fastly secured to the latter, and by a longitudinal guide link I6 the ends of which are mounted in spherically shaped 2 bearings. Bogie and spring bands are permitte of swinging together about the king pin 23, relative to car body i3. To such end, the recessed bearing plate I8, mounted on the convex head of cradle I5, is provided with shouldered or stepped guide faces it of cylindrical form. The cylinder axis of the said faces I9 is vertical and passes, in the neutral or balanced position of bolsters B, through king pin 23. The said guide faces I9 are engaged or guided by correspondingly adapted cylindrical guide faces of the shoe or slide plate 2u which is xed to the car-body I3.
The bogie king-pin 23 is mounted in a U- shaped underslung longitudinal beam 2d which is depressed -below the intermediate axle 3, and the ends of beam 2 are fastly secured to the two transoms 5 of bogie-frame I. A transversely two-armed balancing lever 25 is, pivoted on kingpin 23, and is engaged at its ends by the links 2l and 28, which act in opposite directions. The free ends of links 2l, 28 are pivoted to the studs 29 of the two transorns 30 which are disposed fore and aft of the king pin 23, and xed to the vehicle body. The ends 33 of transoms 3D are fastly secured to the posts 32 of car-body I3.
The curled-over ends or eyes of plate springs l 9 shall bear in the forks of the bolsters .6 on
as wide a base as possible. To such end, two juxtaposed plate-spring packets advantageously are used (Figs. 2-4), which are fastly secured to spring band I2. The bearing members provided on the top face of spring band l2, therefore, also should have a correspondingly wide base, and the difference in elevation between the said members and the pins Il! of the plate-spring eyes shall be as small as possible. Springs 9 of maximum width also are desirable, since in such case the holsters 6, which form an articulated quadrangle (appearing as rectangle in plan View) may be xedly secured to the springs in the corners of such quadrangle, thus preventing a variation o-f the angular position of the springs relative to bolsters 5.
As may be seen from the drawing, such oscillatable spring support of the car-body on the bogie-frame permits of providing an intermediate or third axle-and-wheel set and, if necessary, of also mounting an electric motor above the said set, in that sufficient room in the bogie centre is held unobstructed for such purpose. The arrangement described also affords the possibility of providing a depressed king pin.
What we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a railway vehicle having a car body, a
bands of said springs, a pairpf transverse bolsters for each bogie pivotedlongitudinally rockably to the end of said springs, king pin-fand-link means for connecting each bogie to the car body, and means for suspending bothends of each said bolster in a transversely swingable sense from each said bogie, the said bolstersfbeingdisposed on either side of said central Wheel set so as to form together with the said springs a closed pendulum-cradle in each bogie, which cradle encloses a free space on veither side of said central Wheel set and below each bog'ie.
2. In a railway vehicle set out in claim 1, spring bands of a width to accommodate at least two `juxtaposed car-body supporting-springs, and circular-arc guideways in said spring bands for Ylaterally guiding the car body, the center of said guideways coinciding with the center of rotation of the respective bogie.
3. In a railway vehicle set out in claim l, longitudinally disposed guide links to rockably guide the said pendulum-cradle transversely of the bogie, said links connecting the spring bands of the longitudinally disposed car-body supportingsp'rings to the respective bogie frame.
4. 1n a railway vehicle set out in claim l, the said holsters being depressed below the bogie sills for the purpose olf-lowering the car-body support',1 ing-springs to permit the use of longitudinal cai'- body girders of high section modulus and to at" tain a smooth running of the vehicle.
