Description

F. SCHMIDT GARMENT HANGER FQR CLOTHESLINES Filed April 18, 1946 April 25, 1950' INVENTOR fieggrick Schmidt ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 25, 1950 UNITED STATES TENT OFFICE 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a hanging hook for supporting garment hangers on clothes lines, and its leading object is to provide a hook with an eye to receive the hook of a garment hanger and a pair of diverging arms having U-shaped terminal hooks connected with the eye and so arranged that the throat of one hook opens on one side of the device and the throat of the other hook opens on the other side of the device, so that the garment suspended by the hook cannot be dislodged from the clothes line from either side.
With the above and other objects in view the invention comprises certain new and useful constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification, and fully illustrated in the drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of the improved hook, showing a garment hanger supported thereby.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the hook by itself.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the hook.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the practical embodiment of the invention, 5 designates an eye, which is closed by means of the wire twist 6.
From the wire twist B a wire arm 1 extends upwardly and a second arm 8 extends upwardly in divergent relation thereto. The upper end portion of the arm I is connected to the vertical arm or leg 9 of the U-shaped hook, which includes the bend I and the terminal leg II, which is spaced from the leg 9 to provide a normally open throat l2. The upper end of the arm 8 is connected to the vertical leg l3 of a second U-shaped hook, which includes the bend I4 and the companion leg l5, which is spaced from the leg I3 to provide a normally open throat It.
The legs 9 and 13 are disposed in a common plane and the legs H and 15 are disposed in another common plane.
The bends IB and [4 are disposed in a common plane, so that when they engage a clothes line the pendant eye will be supported or suspended in a central position. Should a strong wind blow against the garment supported by the conventional hanger H and the hook Ha, which engages the eye 5, the device will be prevented from being displaced on the clothes line by the opposite arrangements of the two hooks of the device. In one position the bar or arm 9 opposes displacement and in the opposite position the bar or arm [3 opposes displacement.
The twist t is located well below the ends of the terminal legs or arms H and I5, so that the entire double hook may be lifted Vertically on the clothes line, so that the throats l2 and It will be moved above the clothes line, before the twist 5 engages the clothes line, when the device may be twisted bodily and then lowered out of engagement with the clothes line.
It is understood that various changes in the details of construction, their combination and arrangement may be made, within the scope of the invention, as defined by the claim hereof.
Having described the invention, I claim as new:
A supporting hook for garment hangers consisting of a pair of U-shaped open hooks being disposed parallel to each other at a predetermined distance, each of said hooks having a leg provided with a divergent portion, the latter forming a twist and terminating in an eye, said hooks facing their opening in opposite direction in order to prevent displacing of the hanger with a garment in a strong wind, and said twist being centrally located below the lower ends of the hooks.
FREDERICK SCHMIDT.
