-may be quickly set up to receive the contents and the cover closed.
Third, to provide a container having these advantages which may be very economically produced and shipped and stored in the knockdown or flat.
Objects relating to details and economies of the invention will definitely appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims.
A container which'embodies the features of the invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front perspective view of a structure embodying the invention with the cover closed.
Fig. 2 is a front perspective view with the body of the box erected to receive contents and with the cover in upright position. i
Fig. 3 is an end elevation showing the erected box with the cover partly .closed.
Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the closed container.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the container in the knockdown or extended form with the liner partially broken away.
The container of this invention comprises a bottom I, front body wall 2, rear body wall 3 and end body walls 4, these walls being hingedly connected to the bottom by the hinging scores conventionally shown at 5. The front wall 2 is provided with comer flaps 6 hingedly connected thereto at I, the corner flaps having extensions 8 hingedly connected to their upper edges at 9.
The rear wall isprovided withcorner flaps l0 hingedly connected thereto by the scores II.
The front wall has a top flap l2 hingedly con- The corner flaps 7 Claims. (CL 229-46) portions 20. When the box is erected the corner flaps are inserted through the slits and their tongues H are engaged with the portions of the end walls above the slits.
The cover 2| is hingedly connected to the upper edge of the rear wall 3 at 22 and is provided with end flaps 23 hingedly connected thereto at 24 and with a closure flap 25 hingedly connected thereto at 26. The closure flap has a tongue 21 which can be snapped into engagement with the front wall through the slit I4, the
deflectable portion is permitting this engage ment by merely pressing on the cover closure flap. The cover end flaps 23 have front and rear extensions 28 and 29 which are disposed through the slits I8 when the cover'is completely closed. The extensions 29 have tongues 30 which engage the edges of the front slits of the body end walls, thus locking the cover in closed position.
These parts are all formed of an integral blank or sheet of container stock scored to provide the hinging connection and suitably cut and slit to provide the parts designed to perform the functions stated.
The liner 3! is in the form of a sheet, desirably of transparent moisture or water resisting material. This sheet is of' a width substantially that of the blank and is disposed with one end substantially flush with the end edges of the front corner flap extensions 8. The other end of the sheet terminates near the outer or swinging end of the cover. Desirably the sheet is adhesively secured to the container blank by a strip of adhesive 32 disposed along the upper edge of the front wall and extending on to the front corner flaps. It is desirably secured to the rear wall by a strip of adhesive 33 disposed adjacent the upper' edge of the rear wall and extended on to the rear corner flaps III. The other end of the sheet is secured by a strip of adhesive 34 to the inner side of the cover only.
With the liner thus secured it is easily positioned when the box is erected. In Fig. 2 the box is shown in erected position to receive the contents with the comer flap extensions 8 partially swung inwardly. These extensions engaging the liner sheet serve to tuck or fold the corner portions of the front end thereof inwardly and not only serve'as supports for the liner sheet but in effect as finger pieces which may be used to properly fold the liner upon the contents. After these parts are folded inwardly, or beginning with the position shown in Fig. 2, the front edge of the liner may be folded inwardly so that the cover can be folded down over the contents and the cover flap extensions 28 and 29 engaged with the slits in the end walls over the front and rear wall corner flaps, the tongues 30 engaging to retain the cover in closed position. The front wall top flap I2 is folded down desirably as the liner is folded over the contents, but in any event it is folded inwardly before the cover is closed. The cover flap tongue 21 may be snapped through the slit H to retain the cover flap in closed position. With this arrangement the contents are effectively enclosed and the container'may be bandled without likelihood of the cover opening accidentally. The container complete with the liner may be shipped and stored in the knockdown or flat, quickly set up to receive the contents, and is readily closed.
I have illustrated and described my invention in a highly practical embodiment thereof. I have not attempted to illustrate or describe certain modifications or adaptations which I contemplate as it is believed this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to practice the invention as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
