.5 ail-he practical utility, of the invention -.will now be: apparent. Thegclip- [iii-assembled vwith a suitable ornament may be utilized for an earring or other clip clamping :purpose by springing the carrier portion with ornamental .member M away irom the .backclamping. member II and inserting an ear lobe or other support (not shown) therebetween. The knurled' bossl5a will clamp the earlobe or such support against the ornamental member and dependably secure the latter inia desired position.
ZI-hus it :is seenthat the improved-construction providesa, back clamping member ill having three resilient appendages,-;namely,. tongue 14 lying: between the spaced arms =13,v which appendages lnormally extend before assembly in substantially one .plane. The resilient tongue 1:41 is vspringable in a .dir'ec-tionout-of, that is,
atqright angle to saidplane for ,co-acting .with
set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A hinged clip of the character described comprising a back clamping member formed of flatsheet material with a grip end and at least three spaced apart resilient-gappendages extendl3 ing therefrom normally lying substantially in one *plane, a carrier portion in swingable interlockment with said back clamping member, one of said appendages being an elongated tongue resilientlyd'is'placeable'out of said plane, two other "ofs'aid appendages. extending along opposite sides of said tongue forming a pair of spaced apart arms .laterally'resilient for displacement in said planasaid arms having free ends formed to extend"inwardly in alignment toward each other and toward said tongue; in said plane, said carrier portion being formed with. spaced apart upstanding piercedears with-which theiree arm ends form said swingable interlockment, said clamping member having a prying. slot between each arm and-the tongue-to facilitate a spreading' or said ends by said lateral displacement of the-arms with respectto eachother inmaking and-breaking said :interlockment, .and. a-shoe extending'i'rom said-carrier portion between said ears contacting said resilient tongue for selectively spring pressing the carrier portion in (open and closedpos'ition's. v
2; The hinged cllp' as defined in claim .1 in which eachof said arms has an integralextene sion projecting longitudinally beyond said iree ends for retaining said: carrier portion iii-alignment.
3. The' hinged clip as defined in claim 1 n which each oiisaid armshas aninteg-ral .extension projecting longitudinally beyond said free ends for retaining said carrier portion in alignment and sa-id' grip" end isformed'with an integr-al circular knurled-boss.
