1 Claim.
The invention relates to a filing clip for paper or the like sheets, and more especially to a paper clamp or clip for household and office uses.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a clip of this character, wherein the holding posts or studs for sheet paper are engaged by a retaining panel or frontal piece, so that all sheets will be retained in order of filing for the convenient reference thereto or for the easy removal under selection of a determined sheet.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a clip of this character, wherein the panel or frontal piece can be latched irrespective of the number of sheets engaged on the posts for the holding thereof in order, and the latching is effected by frictional engagement between the said panel or piece and the posts of the device.
A further object of the invention is the provision. of a clip of this character, wherein the frontal piece or panel can be readily and conveniently released and its removal had with ease and dispatch, there being no separate catches or other like mediums for the holding of the sheets as placed in the clip.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a clip of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and effective for the purposes intended therefor, strong, durable, retaining the sheets engaged in orderly fashion, neat in appearance, sturdy so as to give long life thereto, and inexpensive to manu facture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the clip constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of a modified form of the base member of the clip.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, particularly Figures 1 to 3, inclusive, A designates generally the clamp or clip constructed in accordance with the invention, and comprises in detail a base plate In from which rise a pair of spaced vertical holding posts or stubs II, which are of uniform height from the base plate, they being riveted or otherwise made rigid thereto, with their upper ends blunt pointed, as at l2, best seen in Figure 2 of the drawing.
Removably fitted to these posts or stubs II is a frontal piece or strap-like bridging member or panel l3, which has formed medially thereof an outwardly arched springy portion or connecting neck I4 for merging reversely sloping lateral gripping areas l5, respectively, these being formed with apertures I 6 for the posts or stubs I I so that the piece or panel I3 can be slipped onto the latter when the areas are acted upon to lie in the same level with each other, then when these areas are released they will frictionally latch upon the said posts or stubs, as best seen in Figure 1 of the drawing.
The posts or stubs II are adapted to support sheets, these being properly perforated for the re ception of the posts or stubs, as is well known for the mounting thereon in stacked order against the base member I 0 or the plate constituting the same. This plate It! is provided with a central- 1y located hole H for the hanging of the clip on a vertical wall or other support. The plate Hi can be attached to any suitable backing, not shown, if desired.
The areas I5 at their outer edges are provided with outwardly directed presser ears I8 so that when actuated in an inward direction through pressure from the hand of an operator, the areas will become frictionally unlatched from the posts or stubs II for the adjustment or complete removal of the piece or panel I3 therefrom.
In Figures 4 and 5 of the drawing, there is shown a slight modification of the invention, wherein the base plate l9 has cut and struck outwardly from its body the upstanding posts or stubs 20, which are substitutes for the posts or stubs ll heretofore described, the posts or stubs 20 being outwardly curved at their outer sides for effecting the latching of the frontal piece or panel of the clip therewith.
It is, of course, understood that the clip in its entirety can be made from any suitable material, as for example, constructed from plastic material, metal or the like.
What is claimed is:
A frontal piece for a clip comprising a straplike bridging member having an upwardly arched springy medial portion, reversely sloping lateral gripping portions, upwardly directed presser ears UNITED STATES PATENTS on said gripping portions having inturned upper Number Name Date ends and elongated openings in said gripping 317 856 Roach et a1 May 12 1885 portions intermediate of said medial portion and 753976 Goss Mar 1904 said presser ears for attaching said frontal piece 5 917972 steuer Apr 1909 to the clip. n
