Description

LOOPED CLOTHESLINE SUPPORT Filed Nov. 29, 1945 Patented Nov. 29, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE LOOPED CLOTHESLINE SUPPORT Frank Mitchell, Chicago, Ill.
Application November 29, 1945, Serial No. 631,662
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to an endless line for drying clothes and more particularly to a line that will replace the conventional pulley type clothes line.
An object of this invention is to provide a line which can be conveniently suspended between two remotely separated supports and be operated to hang clothes thereon without the person hanging up the cloth moving from one particular spot.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for supporting the line thereby eliminating wear and tear on the line.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the novel details of construction arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a prespective view of an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is a detailed sectional View of a modification thereof and Figure 3 is a top plan view of Figure 2.
Referring more in detail to the drawings the reference numeral l designates oppositely and remotely separated and mounted goose neck supports having reduced bearing portions I4 on which are rotatably mounted grooved pulleys l6, washers I8, placed on opposite sides of the pulleys l6, permit of free rotation thereof and the washers and pulleys are retained on the supports 10 by means of a pin 20 entering the apertured reducted end portions 22 of the bearing portions l4 of the support [0.
The support l0 can be fixed to any convenient supporting means as desired.
A continuous flexible metal band 24 is adapted to frictionally engage the pulleys l6 and rotate therewith when the band 24 is pulled either in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.
Relatively spaced from each other and secured to the band 24 by fasteners 26 is the fixed member 28 of a two piece clamp 30, the moveable or adjustable member 32 being fastened to the fixed member 28 by means of a screw 34.
A clothes line or cable 36 is adapted to be clamped between the jaws of the clamp 30 and retained therein by pressure of the members 28 and 32 caused by the tightening of the screw 34.
Clothes pins 38 are placed intermediate of the clamps 30 to attach the clothes 40 to the line 36 as desired.
In the form of the invention shown in Figures 2 and 3, the pulleys are replaced by sprocket wheels 42 and the band 24 by a web or sprocket band '44, the other elements remaining the same as previously described.
To operate the device the band 24 is manually pulled in the desired direction either clockwise or counterclockwise and during the rotation thereof the clothes may be suspended from or removed from the line 36.
Unlike a pulleyline whereby only half of the line can be used, the entire line can be used to suspend the clothes and various clothes may be removed therefrom at will.
Thus there is provided a device that is simple, efficient and easily operated which will suspend clothes at various elevations, according to the desires of the user thereof.
In the foregoing description a preferred embodiment of the invention has been described but it is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited thereto since modifications and changes may be made therein without departing from principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention therefore the right is reserved to make such changes as fairly fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
In a device of the character described comprising oppositely positioned and remotely mounted goose neck shaped supporting members, sprocket wheels rotatably mounted in a horizontal plane on said supporting members, a sprocket band mounted on said sprocket wheels, clamping means secured to said band in fixed and depending relation thereto for supporting an endless clothes line below said band in parallel relation thereto.
FRANK MITCHELL.
