1 claim. (cifra-39) This invention relates to a building tile, and more particularly to such a tile adapted for the construction of the exterior walls of buildings.
A primary object of this invention is the provision of an improved building tile so arranged and constructed that when formed into a wall vwill preclude the passage of moisture therethrough.
An additional object of this invention is the provision of such a tile provided with inclined surfaces adapted to be positioned on the interior wall into which the tile is built, so arranged as to deflect moisture, as for example, a driving rain, outwardly toward the exterior of the building.
Still another object is the provision of such a tile which may be readily and equally interlocked with adjacent tiles in such manner as to form an improved wall structure.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out as the description of the invention proceeds and shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of this inventive concept.

Figure 1 is a sectional view taken through a Wall utilizing the tile of the instant invention.
Figure 2 is a front plan View of a wall constructed with the tile of the instant invention, certain concealed parts thereof being shown in dotted lines.
Figure 3 is a front elevational view of a tile embodying the instant inventive concept.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the tile shown in Figure 3, and
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a tile constructed in accordance with the instant invention.
Like reference numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Having reference now to the drawings, the tile of the instant invention is comprised of an outer face I0, forming a plain surface, a top II and a base I2, the outer face being positioned at substantially right angles to the top and bottom.
The inner face of the tile is comprised of two angularly disposed portions I3 and I 4, the portion I3 being disposed at an acute angle with respect to the base I2, and the portion I4 being disposed at an obtuse angle with respect to the top I I, the two portions being joined by a horizontal section I5. The length of the portion I3 is substantially double that cf the angularly disposed portion I4, and a reinforcing member I6 extends transversely through the interior of the tile from the front 2 surface I0 to a mid-point of the angularly disposed surface I3.
In constructing a wall utilizing the tile of the instant invention, the outer layer of tiles seen at 8 in Figure 1, is arranged with top II upwardly and its inner layer is built in staggered relation thereto, with the top downward, the arrangement being such that opposed surfaces I4 are juxtaposed with each other, as are opposed surfaces I3, and the tiles staggered in the conventional manner.
The arrangement is such that moisture striking the exterior surface of the wall so constructed and penetrating the normally porous material of which the tile is constructed, and the motor joints therebetween after passing through the outer face of the tile now strikes one of the inclined surfaces I3 or I4, and is directed back outwardly toward the exterior of the wall.
Thus it will be seen that a wall constructed with the improved tile of the instant invention serves to deect moisture from the interior of the building, and form a substantially water-tight structure.
It may here be pointed out that the tile is preferably so dimensioned that standard size bricks may bond with and into the tile of the instant invention, and that by assembling the tiles in the manner previously described a substantial wall having smooth inner and outer surfaces may be formed.
Now from the foregoing it will be seen that there is herein provided a building tile accomplishing all the objects of this invention and others including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
A masonry wall construction comprising an exterior layer of tiles and an interior layer of tiles, each layer being formed of bonded tiles in superimposed courses, the joints between the courses of on'e layer being intermediate the joints of the other of the layers, the sides of the tiles in bonded opposed relation in the layers being each comn prised of an upper and a lower face inclined downwardly toward the exterior surface of the construction for moisture deflection, the two faces being connected by a substantially horizontal intermediate ledge, the ledge of each tile in the interor layer overhanging the top of a. tile of the exterior layer and at a. joint thereof, the upper face of each tile in the interior layer being positioned opposite a lower face of a tile in the exterior layer, and the lower face of each tile in the interior layer being positioned opposite the upper face of a tile in the exterior layer and overhanging a ledge thereof.
