The present invention has relation to perambulator bodies and their manufacture, and has for its object to provide a body which is constructed from sections made of moulded plastic material, the said sections being advantageously of interchangeable character and providing for a particularly rigid and satisfactory body when assembled, provision being made in or on the sections for the instalment of the usual perambulator furniture such as upholstery, hood, apron, squabs, undercarriage, handles and the like.

According to the present invention the body comprises two curved or angle shaped panels or sections adapted to constitute the ends and upper parts of the body, which panels or sections are characterised by grooves or channels adapted to accommodate the extremities of two side sections or panels and means for fastening the respective panels or sections in engagement, the four panels or sections being constituted of moulded plastic material.

In order that this invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into practice reference may be had to the appended drawings, upon which- Figure 1 illustrates in perspective a perambulator body constructed in accordance with the present invention, and

Figure 2 illustrates in perspective an end panel and a side panel about to be assembled.

In a convenient embodiment of the present invention each end panel or section a involves a downwardly directed part and a more or less horizontally directed part al connected by a curved formation and along each edge of this panel or section there are provided two inwardly protruding ribs, a2 a3 the inner rib 112 being advantageously of stouter configuration than the outer rib which may be rounded or shaped for the sake of appearance as illustrated particularly in Figure 2. This panel or section, a, al complete with its ribs (12, a3 is formed by moulding plastic material Well known in the art. In addition a horizontal rib a4 is provided for the end support of a seat. The side panels or sections 1) are shaped at their extremities to engage the end sections before referred to and the said side sections are provided at their extremities with an internal rib bl to give strength where there is engagement with the end sections, and in addition there is an external stout rib b2 at the top edge in which holes are cored or drilled to provide fitments for the hood, apron and handles and to give further strength and lend appearance. n the inner face of each side panel is provided a horizontal rib b3 which is on a plane with the corresponding horizontal ribs (14 of the end panels for supporting the seats, and two bosses 124 may be provided below this horizontal rib 123 for the purpose of carrying rods, the extremities of which provide the means by which the carriage is suspended or mounted on the undercarriage. Centrally at the bottom of each side panel b on the inner face is a rib 125 for carrying the floor boards and it is to be appreciated that all ribs or flanges are formed integral in the moulding of the plastic body, so that in this invention a four piece body is provided having interchangeable sides and ends, each piece or panel being manufactured from moulded plastic material. b6 are triangulated formations formed integral with the side sections 7) to lend strength thereto.

In order to secure the side panels b in the grooves formed by the ribs a2, a3 in the end panels internally threaded metal sleeves may be let into the end ribs bl of the side sections bin the moulding process and the inner ribs (12 of the end panels may be provided with elongated slots of dilferen tial dimension permitting cheese head or other screws being engaged with the tapped sleeves in the side panel ribs bl, the heads of the screws being accommodated in the larger dimension of the differential slots.

The outer ribs b2 on the side panels b and other adjacent parts of the body may be apertured or otherwise prepared for fastening means associated with detachable loose squabs constituting part of the upholstery and similar provision may be made for the installation of the usual handle, hood and apron. Ribs b! may be provided ex ternally on the side panels I) at the bottom thereof to harmonise with the outer ribs ad of the end panels a. A perambulator body constructed in accordance with the present invention is readily assembled, is rigid in use and when constructed in quantities is inexpensive to produce, the interchangeable feature of the panels providing considerable facilities in manufacture maintenance, replacements or repairs, economy in packing and the cost of carriage and distribution.

I claim:

1. An open topped perambulator body comprising, in combination, a pair of matching oppositely directed end pieces, eachof said and :pieces being molded as a unit and having raised ridges at its lateral edges, similar ridges spaced inwardlytherefrom forming parallel Walled channels therewith, and horizontal support elements formed on the inner wall and extending laterally thereacross, the edge ridges and their associated spaced ridges extending upwardly to near the top edges of the end pieces, and side panels each molded as a unit and having integral bracing ribs, edge flanges adapted to fit in the channels formed by the ridges on said end pieces and horizontal, longitudinally extending support elements on the inner walls, all of the support elements on said end pieces and on said side panels lying on the same horizontal plane when said end pieces and said side panels are assembled with the edges of said side panels seated in the channels on said end pieces, said support elements being adapted for mounting interior, horizontally extending perambulator elements such as seats and floor boards.

A perambulator body in accordance with claim 1 in which the edge ridges on the side panels each have a series of horizontally extending bores and the inwardly spaced ridges on the end pieces have corresponding bores, corresponding pairs of bores in the two series being in line for receiving '4 holding means when said body is assembled with the edge ridges of said side panels seated in the channels formed by the pairs of ridges of the end pieces.
