Description
June 14, 1949. sc A s 2,473,305 I WINDOW SHADE GUIDE Filed Sept. 19, 1945 /9 l8 Inventor .E FLSCHMHUS fi ang Patented June 14, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WINDOW SHADE GUIDE Emil A. Schmaus, Chicago, Ill.
Application September 19, 1945, Serial No. 617,345
2 Claims. 1
My invention relates to window fixtures and has for an object to provide means whereby a window shade will be guided truly upon its roller.
Another object of this invention is to provide a shade guide adaptable for either a window frame flush with a wall or an inset window frame.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bracket having a hinged shade guide usable in different positions relative to the bracket.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a window embracing my invention,
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof,
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is a perspective view of my device,
Figure 5 is a top plan view thereof, and
Figure 6 is an end view of Figure 5.
In the above drawings as well as in the specification to follow, the same characters of reference indicate the same parts throughout.
My guide I consists of a bracket plate II having an aperture l2 whereby it may be screwed to a window casing l3. The plate II has a right angular end I4 to which is connected by a stiif hinge iii, a head of a U-shaped guide ll, between the leaves l8 and I9 of which the edge 29 of a window shade 2| is adapted to pass and be guided straight upon its roller 22. The leaf i9 is provided with flanges 23 and 24 projecting from its inner end 25 to abut one side 26 of the angle I4, and the plate I8 is provided with a right angular flange 2'! projecting from its inner end 28 to engage the outer surface 29 of flange l4 whereby the member l1 will be limited in movement in either direction and thereby held in aligning position with the shade edge 20 of a shade mounted on either an ofiset or inset roller. When the device is used with an inset shade the members II and H are swung to right angles with one another as indicated in Figure 5 of the drawings.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the Durview of the invention claimed may be restored to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described my invention that which I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
l. A shade guide including a bracket adapted to be positioned transversely of a side member of a window casing and formed with a vertical forwardly extending apertured flange forming the central portion of a hinge, a plate formed with an inwardly extending shade-engaging and guiding slot in its outer end and with vertically spaced apertured hinge portions adapted to be disposed at the opposite sides of said central hinged portion with the several apertures aligned, a pin extending through said aligned apertures in the hinged portions, and means formed on the inner end of said plate for engagement with said bracket to limit the movement of said plate.
2. A shade guide including a bracket adapted to be positioned transversely of a side member of a window casing and formed with a vertical forwardly extending apertured flange forming the central portion of a hinge, a plate formed with an inwardly extending shade engaging and guiding slot in its outer end and with vertically spaced apertured hinge portions adapted to be disposed at the opposite sides of said central hinge portion with the several apertures aligned, a pin extending through said aligned apertures in the hinge portions, and stop ears formed at right angles on the inner end of said plate for engagement with said bracket to limit the movement of said plate.
