1 Claim.
This invention relates to adjustable holders for brushes, and more particularly, to holders which permit the handle of the brush to be held at an angle with respect to a hand grasp to permit a painter, for instance, to conveniently hold the brush and paint angularly related surfaces, particularly, above his head.
One object of the invention is a brush holder which may be adjusted with respect to a hand grasp at any convenient angle in a transverse plane.
Another object of the invention is a brush holder adapted to receive brush handles of different sizes.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a brush holder which may be disposed at any desired angle with respect to the hand grasp.
A further object of the invention is an adjustable brush holder adapted to be mounted on a pole, to enable a painter to reach remote surfaces.
These and other objects of the invention and the means for their attainment will be more apparent from the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings illustrating one embodiment by which the invention may be realized, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a view in front elevation showing a paint brush carried by a brush holder;
Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the brush holder of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken in the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows; and
Fig. 4 is a view showing the scored face of one of the reinforcing blocks.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like reference characters are applied to corresponding parts, the handle 6 of the paint brush 8 is received between two substantially semi-cylindrical sleeve members [-H having their upper edges formed with a serrated or saw tooth configuration, indicated respectively at Ill and I I. These sleeve members are held together in clamping engagement of the brush handle by clamping bolt l2 provided with a winged hand hold M, the bolt l2 being shown as passing through an aperture in the wall of member Ill and being threaded into threaded boss N3 of clamping member II.
The upper end l8 of an adjustable coupling member l820, comprises a cylindrical sleeve which is received in and held tightly clamped between clamping members llI-l I. At one end sleeve i8 is cut away stepwise, as indicated at 24, 24, while the matching lower sleeve 20, is cut similarly, as indicated at 26, 26' to provide two interfitting joint sections 28 and 30. The mating joint sections 28 and 30 are severally fitted with reinforcing blocks 32, 34, which are apertured, as shown at 36, 38, in Fig. 3, to receive threaded winged bolt l2, the latter being threadable into threaded boss 40 secured or made integral with section 30 of the upper joint member I8. By this means, the joint coupling sections [8 and 20 can be rotated through any desired angle and locked in that position by tightening up on the bolt l2. v
A handle 42, of any desired length, is inserted in the socket formed by the sleeve of coupling section 20, and the device is ready for use.
Conveniently, the meeting faces of the blocks 32 and 34 are roughened, as shown in Fig. 4, to prevent relative slipping.
A paint brush handle of the character described is particularly convenient for painting surfaces above the head of the painter, and if that surface is angularly related with the ground, the angularity of the coupling portion [8 may be adjusted at any angle desired with respect to the cooperating coupling portion 20.
It will thus be seen that a holder for a paint brush has been provided which enables the brush to be set at substantially any angle to the handle to permit the painting of surfaces in any plane to the horizontal, as well as horizontal surfaces. Further, an attachment is provided which enables any length of handle to be used with an ordinary commercial paint brush.
Various modifications will occur to those skilled in the art in the proportions and disposition of the component elements going to make up the invention as a whole, as well as in the specific form taken by the respective clamping parts, and no limitation is intended by the phraseology of the foregoing description or illustrations in the accompanying drawings, except as indicated in the appended claim.
