The invention relates to improvements in ash trays or receptacles especially adapted for use in automobiles to replace such receptacles now common in the art.
One of the principal objects of the invention is the provision of an article of this character into which a lighted cigarette or other smoking material may be quickly deposited and dispensed with'or without any further attention on the part of the smoker, such as tamping out the burning end of the smoking material.
A further object is the application of suction means from the engine of a vehicle to a container into which the lighted smoking material is drawn immediately after its deposit into the receptacle by a simple operation of a valve means.
A further object of the invention is the procommunication is established through the duct 2 by means of the opening ll extending through the valve 8. The opening H is also of rectangular shape corresponding with that of the interior of the duct 2. In this position the draft created in the container by the suction through the tube 5 draws the lighted smoking material from the receptacle into the container through the opening I2 which is of suflicient length and Width so as not to impede the passage of the burning material.

These and. other objects will appear as my invention is more fully hereinafter described in the following specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and finally pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure 1 is a sectional and partial fragmentary side elevation of an ash tray and container made in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional bottom plan view taken along the line 22 of Figure 1.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing.
Reference numeral I indicates a receptacle of any desired shape or size disposed on the dashboard of a vehicle within convenient reach of the driver, similar to receptacles of this character now common in the art. The receptacle is in open .communication by a duct '2 of rectangular shape in cross section, with a container 3 by means of a threaded attachment or cap 4 secured to, or formed integral with, one terminal end of the duct. In open communication with the cap 4 and the container is a suction tube 5 connected with the intake manifold of an engine or any other part thereof from which a suction may be obtained.
The container 3 is divided by a screened partition 6 so that the smoke may be withdrawn from one side of the partition and the smokin material will remain on the opposite side thereof.
Interposed between the receptacle l and the container is a valve mechanism within which is slidably mounted for vertical movement a valve 8 movable by a handle generally indicated at 9 and'backed by a compression spring l0 whose one end bears against the valve and whose opposite end bears against the housing. The passageway between the receptacle and the container is opened and closed by upward and downward movement, respectively, of the valve 8. When the valve is moved upwardly by the handle of and in open communication with the side wall of the cap so that there will be a straight passage from the receptacle to the container.
As an optional feature I may decide to form an additional air intake opening l3 in the receptacle I.
While I have shown a particular form of embodiment of my invention, I am aware that many minor changes therein will readily suggest themselves to others skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A receiver for burning material comprising a container mounted to one side of a dashboard of a vehicle, a receptacle disposed on the opposite side of said dashboard, said container and receptacle adapted for open communication with each other by means of a duct interconnecting them, said duct being of rectangular shape in cross section, a spring urged valve movable through said duct for opening and closing communication between the receptacle and the container, said valve having a rectangular opening therein corresponding with the rectangular shape of the duct, said container having a vertically disposed screen partition therein to divide the container into two compartments, said receptacle being in communication with one of said com- REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
