1 i This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in spinning rings and travelers employed in connection with" spinning machines.
It has for one of its objects to so design and construct the ring and the traveler wherein the bearing faces of the ring are so disposed as to provide for an upward and outward'thrust or pressure of the traveler against the ring at all times to counteract or eliminate any tendency of the traveler to jump up and down on; the ring during the spinning operation and accordingly the inner and outer sides of the ring, and wherein the traveler is complementary in shape to engage the inner bearing face and adjoining inner shoulder during its operation about the ring, while the remaining portion thereof is free from contact with the ring to provide ample space for the movement of the thread.
Other features of the invention reside in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a top plan view of the ring and traveler in place on the ring holder. Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is an enlarged side view of the traveler.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring now to the drawings, l0 indicates I the holder which is adapted to be mounted on the traverse bar of a spinning machine, and II indicates the spinning ring which is detachably applied to the holder and upon which the traveler l2 revolves. The holder may be ring-like in form with its opening l3 adapted to receive the lower portion of the spinning ring in a snug fit, and it has slotted attaching flanges projecting outwardly therefrom for detachably securing the holder to the traverse bar. 'I he' traveler I2 is made from a single piece of wireand is complementary in shape to the head or bearing portion of the ring to fit thereover in the manner shown in Figure 2. Its legs l9 are straight and downwardly'diverging in symmetrical fashion, paralleling the companion side faces of the ring, and-each terminates at its lower end in an inwardly-bent foot for disposition beneath the annular shoulders I 1, I 8 of the ring.
The upper looped or vertex portion of the traveler is fully rounded, as indicated at It, to provide ample clearance between it and the flat top side of the ringfor the passage of the thread. During 20 the operation of the traveler, the inner leg is tary leg and its foot, during such operation, as-
sume a position free from contact with theouter side of the ring and the companion lower face l8. This running position of the traveler is caused by the inner bearing face of the ring which exerts a constant upward and outward thrust on the traveler and results in an even and uniform thread-tension.
For the purpose of lubricating the bearing face l5 of the ring, I provide the lower portion of the ring contained within the holder Ill with an annular lubricant-receiving channel 22 communicating with the well it through a duct 23 and with the bearing face of the ring through one or more discharge ports 24 each containing a wick 25 for regulating the feed of the lubricant to such bearing face.
I claim as my invention:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a spinning ring having a traveler-engaging portion of substantially frusto-conical shape in cross' section providing a downwardly-facing lower bearing face disposed at right angles to the ring-axis and an inner bearing face extending upwardly andioutwardly from the inner edge of 'said lower bearing face, and a traveler of complementary shape having legs paralleling the side faces of the ring and Joined at their upper ends in a curved vertex portion spanning the top side of the ring to provide a thread-engaging loop, the inner traveler leg being engageable stralghtwise and coextensively withthe inner bearing face of the ring and both legs terminating at their lower ends in opposing feet, the foot of the inner traveler leg being horizontal and engageable with the lower bearing face of the ring.

A device of the character described, comprising a spinning ring having a traveler-engaging portion of substantially frusto-conieal shape in cross section and terminating at the base of such portion at the inner and outer sides thereof in lower bearing faces disposed at substantially right angles to the ring-axis, the inner bearing face of the ring extending upwardly and outwardly from the inner edge of the adjoining lower bearing face, and a traveler of complementary shape having legs disposed in parallel relation to the side faces of the ring and joined at their upper ends in a curved vertex portionspannlng the top side of the ring to provide a thread-engaging loop, each of said legs terminating at its free end in an inwardly-bent horizontal foot for disposition beneath the companion lower bearing face of the ring.
