This invention relates to hoisting devices and has special reference toahoisting device foruse on a trucker the like. 7
One important object of the invention is to provide an improved general construction of hoisting device.
A second important object of the invention is to provide a hoisting device having a ioldable cranearm. i
The third important object of the invention is to provide a hoisting device having a foldable crane arm and having-motor means and ahoist ing drum carried bythe'ou-ter section of the foldable arm.
It is a further object of the invention to provide hoisting mechanism especially designed and adapted for the loading of barrels, kegs, bales and the like upon trucks and also for unloading such articles from trucks,.the mechanism provided accomplishing the loading and unloading operations in a most efficientsmanner and with increased speed of operation.v
With the above, and other objects in View, the invention consists in general or certain novel details of construction. andcombinations ofiparts hereinafter-fully described, illustrated in meancompanying drawings, and particularly claimed.
In the accompanying. drawings. like characters of reference indicate like .parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a plan View of the; forward portion of a truck body nd rea of. a. truck cab, the truck body being equipped with the present invention shown by dotted lines in a shifted position,
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a detail view showing the arrange ment of the hoisting means proper, and
Figure 4 is a wiring diagram for operation of the hoist.
In the embodiment of the invention here shown, there is illustrated the forward portion l of a truck body and a rear portion of a truck cab H with which the loading or hoisting mechanism is associated. While the hoisting mechanism may be attached to the truck body at any desired point, such as forwardly or rearwardly thereof and centrally of either end, or at either side of the truck body, the hoisting mechanism for purposes of illustration is shown as located centrally of the forward end of the truck body. As shown more clearly in Figure 2, a journal bearing or pin i2 rises from a base plate 12a centrally of the forward end of the truck body in proximity of the cab H and upon which pin there is Claims. Figure 4 illustrates a wiring diagram for the supply and control of electrical energy to the motor 24 for the operation of the hoisting mechanism and also illustrates the usual truck battery 32 as being utilized in connection with the hoisting mechanism. The reference character 33 designates the additional battery for the operation of the hoisting mechanism and which additional battery 33 is connected in parallel with the battery 32 by the conductors 3 1. The conductors 3% connect the batteries 33- and 32 with the motor 24 and a control switch 36 is interposed in the conductors 35.
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent, it being noted that the post 14 with its crane arm It may be shifted to position the hoisting mechanism carried by the plate 23 laterally of the truck body I as shown by dotted lines in Figure 1. The hoisting mechanism is shiftable upon its v rtical bearing sleeve 13, the crane post i4 and b means of the bearing sleeve 20. The grapple 3| i illustrated in Figure 2 as being engaged with a barrel B with the hoisting mechanism supporting the barrel in a raised position relative to the truck body 50 for the loading or unloading thereof relative to the truck body. With the shiftable mountings for the hoisting mechanism as described, the plate 23 carrying the cable drum 29 is positionable at the desired point over the truck 4 motor and drum, and a battery connected to said motor for actuating the same.

In a device of the kind described, a vehicle body, a battery carried thereby, a crane device having a crane arm including pivotally connected inner and outer members, a motor hoist on the outer end of said outer member, said hoist comprising a vertically disposed plate having a motor mounted thereon, a drum rotatably mounted on said plate, and driving connections between said motor and drum, a second battery connected in.

body for releasing a barrel or the like in the desired position relative to the truck body.
While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed,
What is claimed is:
l. The combination with a vehicle body, of a pivot member fixed to said body adjacent one end thereof, a crane post pivoted on said member, a crane arm extending radially from the upper end of said post, an extension arm pivoted to the outer end of said crane arm, and a vertically disposed plate carried by the free end of said extension arm, a motor mounted on one side or said plate, and hoisting means driven thereby mounted on the opposite side of said plate.
2. The combination with a vehicle body, of a pivot member fixed to said body adjacent one end thereof, a crane post pivoted on said member, a crane arm extending radially from the upper end of said post, an'extension arm pivoted to the outer end of said crane arm, and hoisting means carried by the free end of said extension arm, said hoisting means including a vertically disposed plate, a drum rotatably mounted thereon, a motor carried by said plate, and gearing operatively connecting said motor and drum. 1 1
3. The combination with a vehicle body, of a pivot member fixed to said body adjacent one end thereof, a crane post pivoted on said member, a crane arm extending radially from the upper end of said post, an extension arm pivoted to the outer end of said crane arm, and hoisting means carried by the free end of said extension arm, said hoisting means including a vertically disposed plate, a drum rotatably mounted on one side thereof, a motor mounted on the opposite side of said plate, gearing operatively connecting said and a switch interposed between said second battery and motor hoist.
5. In a portable hoist, a supporting post adapted to be secured to a truck body, a horizontal supporting arm mounted on the upper end of the post for swinging movement in a horizontal plane, a plate mounted on the arm, said plate having bearing openings, a hoist drum mounted within a bearing opening, a large gear at one end of the hoist drum, an electric motor mounted on the plate, a substantially small gear meshing with the large gear, and being secured to the shaft of the motor, whereby rotary movement of the motor is transmitted to the hoist drum, a cable adapted to be wound on the hoist drum, and a grapple secured to the free end of the cable and adapted to be positioned over an article tobe lifted, securing the article to the cable, whereby said arm may be swung'inwardly to a position over the truck body to deposit the load lifted by the grapple.
