1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in lug strap hangers for the picker stick of a loom and more particularly to a hanger which can be readily applied to and adjustable on an ordinary picker stick and which will efiectively support the lug strap in a manner to reduce wear on the strap as well as on the stick, thereby prolonging the life of this part of the loom. 7
An important object of the present invention is to provide a lug strap hanger which extends upwardly behind the picker stick to reinforce the latter and which is adjustable on the picker stick to increase or diminish the delivery of power for throwing a shuttle operated by the picker stick.
Another object of the invention is to provide a lug strap hanger embodying means for securely attaching the hanger to the picker stick by a single bolt and nut.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is strong and durable, which may be easily and quickly attached in position to a picker stick without necessitating any changes or alterations in the construction thereof, and which at the same time is efficient and reliable in operation and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a rear elevational view showing the lug strap hanger secured in position to a picker stick;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof;
Figures 3 and 4 are transverse sectional views taken respectively on the lines 3-3 and 44 of Figure 2, and
Figure 5 is an enlarged perspective view of the hanger.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention the numeral 5 designates the lug strap hanger generally which comprises a rigid bar 6 having a pair of vertically spaced apart plates 1 and 8 suitably secured adjacent its upper end, the plates proselectively receiving a bolt and nut In for securing the bar adjacent its lower end to the rear edge of a picker stick II.
The side edges of the bar 6, in the region of the openings 9, are formed with forwardly extending lugs or flanges l2 positioned at the opposite sides of the picker stick to hold the hanger in an upright position at the rearedge of the picker stick.
A lug strap 13 of conventional construction extends forwardly at opposite sides ofthe picker stick with its rear end held between the plates 1 :and 8. A leather pad 14 is suitably secured to the rear edge of the bar 6 between the plates 1 and 8 to reduce shock between the lug strap l3 and the picker stick.
The lower end of the bar 6 is formed with a rearwardly extending hook IE on which the rear end of a strap i6 is engaged to extend forwardly under the lower end of the picker stick for attaching to the usual return spring H.
The bolt l0 secures the picker stick H as Well as the hanger 5 to the support or stand l8 by means of the conventional shoe structure l9.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the hanger 5 may be secured in vertically adjusted position at the rear edge of the picker stick II by the single bolt and nut I0 and by adjusting the hanger upwardly or downwardly on the picker stick the delivery stroke subjected to the shuttle may be regulated. The lug strap i3 is engaged at its rear end between the upper and lower plates 1 and 8 of the bar 6 and is loosely engaged therebetween to provide for the vertical adjustment of the hanger.
The simplified construction of the hanger enables manufacture thereof at relatively low cost and eliminates the use of separate attachable parts which might become loose or broken during the operation of the loom. The provision of the single attaching. bolt and nut Ill provides an easy and quick method of attaching the hanger to the picker stick.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprestick, a single attaching means for the lower end 10 of the bar, and means carried by the bar and engaging the picker stick to hold the bar in a perpendicular position, said first named means comprising upper and lower vertically spaced apart guard plates carried by the bar and projecting rearwardly and laterally at each side of the bar, and a pad carried by the bar between the guard plates and positioned between the lug strap and the bar.
FRANK BUCHANAN.
