(01.132-16) V This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in combs, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the characterherein described, in which a novel structure of rotatable discs is employed in place of the conventional comb teeth. When in operation, the rotating discs will continually keep themselves clean and the unsanitary conditions resulting from the accumulation of dirt and other foreign matter on and between the conventional comb teeth will thus-be eliminated.

A further object of the invention is to provide a comb in which thefrictional contact between the discs may be readily and conveniently adjusted and which may be efiectively employed for massaging purposes, if desired, at the same time that the hair is being combed.

An additional object of the invention is to provide a comb in which the discs have rounded peripheral edges for contacting the scalp, in place of the sharp pointed extremities usually provided at the ends of the comb teeth.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a comb in which any of the rotatable discs,

Withparticular reference to the accompanying Figure 1, it will be noted that the discs l8 on the left side of the comb are spaced closer together as compared to the discs 23 on the right side. This arrangement is in conformity with fine 'and coarse teeth usually provided in the conventional comb, and is achieved by lengthening the frusto-conical bosses 24 of the discs 23, as compared to the bosses 2|. In this manner, the discs I8 when assembled, will be spaced in a relatively closer relationship with respect to the discs 23, as will be clearly apparent from the accompanying drawings.

When the invention is placed inuse, the comb is used in the conventional manner by drawing the same through the hair and the frictional contact between the several discs may be adjusted by turning the wing nut ii. If desired, this adjustment may be slackened suificiently to permit unrestricted rotation of the discs, whereupon the comb may be used for massaging purposes.

When any of the discs become damaged or broken, the same may be replaced by simply removing the wing nut 17 and withdrawing the shaft M from the end-pieces ll and replacing the affected disc or discs.

While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the'preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may he resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

1. A comb comprising, in combination, a back bar and laterally projecting end-pieces defining a holder, a shaft journalled in said end-pieces, a head at one end and a screw-threaded portion at the remaining end of said shaft, an adjusting knob on said screw-threaded portion, a plurality of rotatable discs each comprising a circular plate formed witha rounded peripheral edge, and a concentric, frusto-conical boss formed integrally on each side of said plate, said discs being formed with central apertures adapted to rotatably receive said shaft, and the adjustment of said knob varying the frictional contact between said discs.
