Patented Jan. 11, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE REVOLVING SERVING TABLE Beatrice La Vonne Crew, Compton, Calif. Application July 17, 1945, Serial No. 605,586
1 Claim. (Cl. 311-32) This invention relates to a serving table including a tray mounted on a support; adapted to be conveniently located on a table, so that persons seated at the table may have ready access to food, placed on the tray.
An important object of the invention is to p vide a serving tray of this character which ma; be revolved, so that certain selected articles of food on the tray may be brought before a person seated at the table, for removal therefrom.
A further object of the invention is to provide a stationary support and a revolving support mounted therein, the revolving support being shaped to receive a removable tray which, when positioned on the support, will be securely held against movement with respect to the support.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of par-ts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of a serving table constructed in accordance with the invention, the tray which is removably supported on the rotatable support, being shown as lifted from the support.
Figure 2: is a transverse sectional view through the support.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the main support of the device is indicated by the reference character 5, the support being preferably circular in construction and embodying a disklike base 6 and an annular flange 7 arising therefrom, the flange 7 being secured to the edge of the disk-like base '6, as clearly shown by Fig. 2 of the drawing.
Disposed centrally of the base 6, is a'be-aring 8 which is formed with a wear surface 9 that has an annular depression l0 providing a ball bearing groove to accommodate the ball bearings II.
The device also includes a rotary support constructed of cross arms l2 which have upwardly extended enlarged end portions l3 that are adapted to extend slightly above the upper edge of the annular flange 1, as shown by Fig. 2 of the drawing.
A bearing disk 14 is connected to the cross arms I2, and this bearing disk is also provided with an annular groove [5 that aligns with the annular groove 10 in providing a runway for the ball bearings ll.
The pivot pin I6 has its head fitted in a depression formed in one of the cross arms, and this pin extends through openings in the bearing disk [4 and bearing 8, whereby the cross arms or rotary support is held centered at all times.
Brace blocks H are secured within the main support, and are secured to the base 15 and flange l, bracing the flange.
The reference character I8 indicates the circular tray that rests on the movable support of the device, and on which the articles to be served from the device, are positioned.
As shown, the tray is formed with a depressed portion, providing an annular flange IS, the construction of the tray being such that it exactly fits the upper surfaces of the cross arms, so that the tray will be held against movement with respect to the cross arms or movable support, as
the movable support rotates. However, due to this construction, it will be seen that the tray may be readily lifted from its position on the movable support for cleaning purposes.
When using the device, it is contemplated to position the device in the center of a table and the articles to be served therefrom, positioned on the tray which may now be placed on the rotary supporter the device. A person may, by gripping the flange IQ of the tray, rotate thetray to bring certain selected articles on the tray before the person, so that they may be readily removed therefrom.
What is claimed is:
A rotary serving device for table use, embodying a stationary base, a wide annular flange rising from the base and providing a housing, a rotary support embodying cross arms, a bearing disc to which the cross arms are connected, pivotally mounted within the base, the arms being of lengths to extend to a point adjacent to the annular flange, upwardly curved ends formed on the arms and a tray having a body portion shaped to fit within the upwardly curved ends of the arms securing the tray against horizontal movement with respect to the arms.
