defined by each wing I9 extends upwardly and outwardly from the lower end of the adjacent side of the panel I2 to form a point with the side 2| of the panel so that when these wing portions are folded together one across the other and over the forward side of the panel I I, in applying the garment, they will extendv upwardly across the abdomen of the wearer, the top edges 2| coming into adjacent parallel relation with the top edge of the waist band portion I'I as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
In applying the garment the body portion is positioned so that the back panel I2 can be drawn up against the back of the body and the panel II positioned against the front of the body or 4 ing the bather to have to go in a bath house and similar place, and which, when applied, is rmly retained in position by the crossed wing members I9 at the front of the garment, connected one to the other and to the front panel in the manner described. These wing members in addition t0 giving an effective means of securing the garment in closed position, also effectively protect the garment pocket in which the bather may putfjewelry 'or other articles offvaliie fand also give effective protection to the abdomen:v
I claim: l
1. Bathing trunks, comprising a one piece body of material having front and back panels and a the abdomen. When so positioned the lower ends of the adjacent sides of the front and rear panels are secured together by the snap fasteners 24 and the snap button tops '22 of theleft hand wing I9 are secured to the heads 23 which are carried -byrthefront panel waist'portion I'I thus 4securing these unitstogether in the manner shown in Figure 4. In this gure, however, the snap button `24 at the right hand side of the garment has not been secured and the right hand wing portion sponding snapbutton tops 26 carried by the'top edge portion of the right hand panel I9. Inthis manner the right hand triangular portion I9 is folded over the front ofthe left hand portion I9 giving the arrangement shown in Figure 1.
lAcross the front of the right hand triangular portion ror wing portion I9 is xed, in a suitable Imanner, a waist belt section 21 while the back panel I2 has connected therewith the longer waist belt section -28. The endsr of the two waist belt sections 21 and 28 are brought together and con-- nected by` suitable separable buckles-29 yas shown lin Figure 1..
l, The waist Ibeltsections 2'I and 28 may be attached to the garment'bymeans of the usual guide loops` 3Il,.if` desired, or one or both may be permanently attached by stitching or otherwise as desired.l f i `Upon the inner side ofthe body portion Ill there is secured a shield unit which is generally desig- This shield unit is of suitable fabric and has generally theform of an hourglass in that it has the two relatively wide end p ortions 3'2 and 33 which are joined bythe longconstricted intermediate portion 34, the Width of which at its n-arrowest point is less than the width of the connecting portion I4 between the panels II. and I2. Y
, -Asshown in Figure 3 the end portions 32 and 33 are secured along their outer edges to the outer edges respectively of the panels II and -I2 and the overall length of the shield body or unit 3|v is considerably less than the overall length of the body IIJ so thatwhen the garment is applied the shield unit will be drawn up tightly into the crotch to'thereby effectively cover the adjacent areas of the body. k
As shown in Figure 4 the front panel I I may be provided witha vpocket which is generally designated 35. This is effectively covered by the triangular wing portions I9 when the garment i in applied position.
From the foregoing it will be readily apparent that there is provided by the present invention a novel bathing garment which may be readily re- Amoved-from under the slacks, etc., without requiryof-material having iront .and back panels :and a Inarrow connecting portion therebetween, means 'for' joining together adjacent side edges of the .theback panel and adapted to lie one over the other across the front panel, said side wings each `having an overall length substantially equal to the widthof the front panel, and means'for securing said portions to one another andto thefront panel. v .2.. Bathing trunks, comprising a one piece` body narrow connecting portion therebetween,` each panel having side edges designed to be brought into adjoining relation with a corresponding side edge of the other panel, means for coupling to,- gether the adjoining panel edges, a substantially` triangular wing panel joinedv to each of the verticalr-vsidefedges of the back panel, each of said Wing panels having an overall length substantially equal to the width of the front panel, -thewing panels being designed to be brought into overlapping relation one with-the other acrossthe front ofthe front paneLmeans for securing ysaid wing panels in the stated overlapping relation, anda two part waist belt havingone partcarried by the-back panel and the other part` carried byy the outermost `one of an overlapping wing panel. y a
3. `Bathing trunks of the character stated in claim 2,I wherein the said means for joining together the. adjacent edges of the' front andsback panels andthe overlapping panels, comprisesa series of snap fasteners. l i i 4. Bathing trunkspcomprising aone piecebody ofmaterial having front andback panels and a narrow connecting portion therebetween, means forjoining together adjacent side edges 0i the Ip'anelsto form a body enclosing unit, relatively long side wing portions connected toy the vertical side edgesof .the back panel and adapted to'lie one over the other across ythe front panel, and means for securing said portions'to one another and to the front panel, each of said wing portions being of a lengthsubstantially equal to thewidth.
-of the waist belt sections Whenith'e panels and lwing'portions are joined together in thelmanner stated.
5. A pants form of garment comprising aback panel, a front panel of` approximately the same width as the back panel anda crotch portion con. 'necting the front and back panels, a relatively long triangular member upon each 'side' of the back panel, each member being secured` along the base edge of the triangle to a sideV edge of V4the back panel with the back edge of theftriangle angular members to the front panel, yand means for securing the triangular members one to the other.
