9 claims, (CL2- 18) The invention relates to' the structure of n a boxing glove., and particularly to a boxing glove having a pneumatic 'stuilng.-

An object of the invention is to provide a, boxing glove of the pneum-atically stuffed type which permits the shaping of the same into a st-without appreciable resistance.

Another object is to provide a' boxing glove-in which the shock of a blow against any striking.v

The present pocket I extends over the tip ci the flngervstall part of the mitt in the manner illustrated, and this pocket may be provided with vent openings 24 at its inner end opposite the ypocket l1 at the wrist line of the glove whereby a change in the space of the pocket, as when Va blow is struck or the pocket is resuming its normal form following the striking of a blow, will be permitted by maintaining a condition of atmos pheric pressure within the pocket.

Vent holes 25 are provided I1 at the wrist of the glove for dition of latmospheric pressure therein, the stuff# ing of this pocket being more apt to receive than to give blows; the members 23 in this pocket are generally smaller than the membersz in order to interpose a suilicient shock-absorbing number of them between the inside andoutside walls of the pocket.

It will now be noted thatthe present'lhollow ball members 22 and 23 are'provided with ref stricted openings 2-6 through which air maypass as a ball is compressed or asan impact-deformed ball resumes its normal globate form by reason of the resiliency of the material-lof, which'it is made. The holes 2S 0f the balls 22 and 23 are preferably of such sizes with respect to the ball cavities that they appreciably retard theescape of air as the balls are deformed'by the relatively sharp impacts of boxing against them, yet perfor the stuiling pocket e' maintaininga conpadding opposite 4 enclosed inthe casing and cooperatively providing a compressedly yielding padding for the glove.

In a boxing glove, a flexible outer casing of air-tight material provided with vent openings `at its back, and a vplurality of resiliently elastic gl-obate bodies enclosed in the casing in mutually ree and contacting relation 4to cooperatively provide a compressedly yielding padding for the glove.,

In' a bzoxirigglove,1 a flexible casing member cooperative with the glove to denne .a space for .an outer face of the glove, and a plurality of resiliently elastic ball members retainedly disposed in `the space in relatively free and lmutually contacting relation and comprising the padding forthe glove.

In a'bcxing glove, afilexible'outer casing, and a plurality of hollowqball membersfoi'resiliently yielding material enclosed. inthe casing in conmit a, return ow of air into their interiors at the 1 rate required for a resumption of their normal shapes by reason of their resiliency; in this manner, a deforming impact is passedvonfrom Vball to ball. -V

'Ille use of the described globate stuffing members permits 4a high degree of predeterminartion of the effectiveness of a stuiiingmade up of balls in the various pockets, and thus provides a vboxing glove structure which may` offer amaximum degree of protection to the hand of .a-:bcxerusing it. The present glove structure, was originally designed for use in exercising and `for/training for boxing matches, but is also adaptable foruse in boxing contests by providing a stuingofvball members which cooperatively provide an approved hardness for ythe strikingzcne of the glove.

From the foregoing description, taken' in con,.- nection With the accompanying drawings, the advantages of .the construction and use of the present boxingv glove will be readily understood by those skilled in the :art to which the invention .appertains. While I have described theI features and use of anarrangement which I now consider a preferred embodiment of my invention, I desire to have it understood that thevshowing isprimarily illustrative, and lthat such changes iand developments maybe made, when desired,l as ,fall within the scope ofthe following claims.

1. `In a boxing glove, a flexible outer casing, and a plurality of re-silien-tly elastic and relatively unattached members enclosed in the casingin mutually free and contacting relation and cooperatively providing a com-pressedly yielding padding for the glove. v

2. Ina boxing glove, a flexible outer casing, and a plurality of resiliently elastic globate membersV ltact `with-,each other and/ or the casing sides for cooperatively providingz va kconipressedly yielding padding for the glove, said ball members being provided with, ventgholes through their sides to facilitatetheir independent and temporary deformation by deforming impacts against-J them.

8. In a boxing glove having a linger-stall portion andaethumb-stall portion and, a wrist-encircling portionfriiexible .outer casings for said portions, and a plurality of resiliently elastic and relatively ree globate members enclosed in one orymore or said casings Aand providing a compressedly yieldingpadding for the glove thereat.

9. In aboxing glove having-a nger mitt portion, a flexible outer casing for said lmii-t portion, and a plurality of resiliently elastic globatebodies enclosed in the casing inmutually free and contacting relation to provide compressedly yielding padding which permits a clenching and unclenching of` a hand in the glove without offering appreciable resistance thereto.v v EDWARD S.
