UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBRO F. SHOREY, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO LUOlEN SANDERSON, OF SAME PLACE.
TEMPORARY BINDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 244,678, dated July I Application filed May 21, 1881. (No model.)
Io all whom it may concern 7 Be it known that I, ALBRQ F. SHOREY, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Bill-Files, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap, simple, and convenient bill-file and letter-holder, in which any paper on file may be removed therefrom without removing the one on top, or those subsequently placed on the file; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of a clasping spring or springs, whereby the wire hook or hooks may be held open when a paper is being placed on file or being removed therefrom; and also to hold the said hook or hooks and their counterparts closed, so as to permit the papers on tile to be-slipped or passed over the connecting ends of the said hooks when removing papers from the file, as heretofore.
Figure 1 represents a perspective-View of a bill-file constructed according to my invention, the hook or books being shown in an open position within the springs.
resents a similar view of the same, constructed with a single hook closed and in position within the spring.
A represents a back piece, constructed of wood or any suitable material, provided near its upper end with a hole whereby the file may be hung upon the wall, if desired.
Fig. 2 rep-- B represents a bent or curved wire spring, being forked or provided with two prongs curved outward at their free ends, and adapted to pass each side of the wire hook 0 when it is raised up from the pointed projecting pin or holder E, as shown in Fig. 1, wherein the said double spring B yields or opens to receive the body of said hook O, which is extended through an openin gin the back A, and fitted within a horizontal groove and secured so as to permit it to turn as a hinge, pivot, or joint, thus allowing the free opening and closing of the said hook or hooks, and wherein I construct two hooks to a single file. The wire is so bent and formed as to pass across the back of the file, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, thus connecting both hooks O O together; or, if desired, they may be formed single, as shown in Fig. 2, and secured, one or more, upon the back A, as desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is' The combination of the double-pronged claspspring B with the pivoted hook G, pin=holder E, and back A, all being constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described, as and for the purposes set forth.
ALBRO F. SHOREY.
