This invention relates to certain novel improve- 'ments in a combination collar attachment and tie support, and has for its principal object the provision of an improved construction orf this character which will be highly efficient in use and economical in manufacture.

It is an object of this invention to provide an improved device for keeping the wings of a soft fold collar in a neat and attractive condition and to prevent wrinkling and creasing thereof when in use.

- The invention embodies the use of a single piece of wire and the loop or loopswhich form the middle portion thereof for retaining the tie properly positioned between the wings of the collar, and also for holding the knot of the tie firmly in uppermost position.

It is another object of the invention to provide a combined stiffening device for the wings of a soft collar and tie support constructed of a single piece of spring wire bent into the form of an arcuate supporting member adapted to expand and resiliently engage said wings and firmly hold the knot of said tie in desired position.

It is still another object of the invention to provide a combined collar attachment and tie support for the wings of the collar whereby said "wings will not creep thereupon due to novel type looped end portions, each loop having a horizontal section a short distance above the points thereof to prevent creeping, whereby the device will retain the wings in a neat, attractive condition and at the same time have means intermediate its ends to keep the knot of a tie in proper location between said wings.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing showing the preferred form of construction, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a collar, with tie in place, and showing one form of the invention having end portions attached to the collar and its intermediate portion positioned within the knot of the tie;

Figure 2 is a side elevational view of that represented and shown in Figurel;

Figure 3 is a front elevation of the form of invention shown in Figures 1 and 2;

Figure 4 is an enlarged perspective detail view of the preferred form of construction of the piercing points which engage the wings of the collar; and

Figure 5 is a detail side view of the loop and piercing point as shown in Figure4.

In the drawing, a collar of the turndown style is indicated at H! and includes the neck band ing U-shaped loops.

A preferred form of the necktie and collar attachment as, shown in the drawings, is therein generallyindicated at 20, and comprises necktie engaging means 2| and resilient collar engaging arms" and 23 with piercing points 24 and 25. Likewise formed in each of the arms, adjacent the piercing points, are penetration-limiting means in the form of open loops 26 and 21 with oifset portions bent laterally substantially at right angles to the flexible and resilient arm portions 22 and 23 and then bent backwardson itself to provide substantial U-shaped loops 28 and 29,

said loops 28 and 29 each also providing a rest or 25 and'around the loop26 and 21 with consequent wrinkling of the collar wings.

Referring to the drawing, it will be seen'tha the invention is preferably constructed of a single piece of tinned spring wire so as not to rust or corrode and is bent into the desired shape and consists of two arcuate shape arms 22 and 23, with a central connecting portion formed to provide The loop 2| includes an outer inverted U-shaped loop portion, the ends of theleg portions 3| and 32 there'- of extended inwardly as at 33 and 34 and terminate in upwardly turned legs 35 and 36 which terminate by the junction with the top portion of the arcuate arms 22 and 23. At each end of the one piece spring wire a loop is formed, the lower ends 38 and 39 of the arms 22 and 23 extend inwardly and substantially at right angles thereto as indicated at 40 and 4| and then terminate in upwardly turned'legs 42 and 43 form- The legs 42 and 43 terminating at the upper ends by junction with lateral or backwardly extending U-shaped loops 28 and 29 which terminate with junction of downwardly extending piercing point members 24 and '25 v which lie in a plane infront of the U-shape upwardly at the rear of the knot and beneath the outer layer or wrapping of tie material forming the knot l! as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2. Points 24 and 25 are inserted in the underside of the collar tips preferably at the ends thereof to hold the collar tips in place; this is done by placing a finger or fingers upon the lateral loops 28 and 29 causing said points to pierce the mate rial when downward pressure is appliedthereto. Upon release of the supporting arms 22 and 23 they will expand, holding the piercing points firmly in the collar tips and at the same time causing an upward force upon thezwireioop 2| which forces the knot of the tie upwardly, which hold said knot in the desired wearing position.

From the foregoing it is thought th'atthe operation and advantages of .the 'invention will be readily understood and that the invention is also susceptible to various modifications and changes within the scope of the claims hereto appended.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:

An attachment for a tie and a collarhaving "wings, comprising a centralportionwith an upwardly extending loop portion with'the lower end member thereof bent away therefrom-and then upwardly parallel to said loop to form a clip -member, said'loop arranged for entering the interior of the knot of a tie, said-loop exerting upward *pressure to said knot to support 'the -sameys'aid eentral portion also including arcuate shaped arms extending outwardly therefrom, and piercing points at the ends thereof forengage- 'ment-"with s'a'id wings.

An attachment for collars having wings and ties, comprising a single length of wire and a -member with a central loop which is bent to form an inverted U-shaped loop portionwith the lower end membersthereof' bent away therefrom and then upwardly parallel to said loop to form aclip ''member, said loop portion adapted to extend -within the knot of said tie, saidmemoer including arms and piercing elements onsaid arms for engagement withsaid wings, looped portions on said arms adjacent thepiercing elements, and means associated with said looped portions for preventingthe' fabric of the wings from working "up past said elements and loop when said ele- -ments are engaged with'thewings.

7. A necktie support formed of a continuous strand ofspring wire and comprising a member having its-intermediate part' formed into a Ver tically arranged loopwhich is bent to form an --inverted'-U-shaped loop portion with the lower end members thereof bent away therefrom: and

then upwardly parallel to said loop to form a clip, said loop portion adapted 'to'exertlupward pressure and also adapted to extend into the interior 'knot'of' the necktie,.said strand also com-prising arcuate shaped arms terminating adjacent the points of the collar and extending from the loop and pointed for penetrating the collar,- material, andmeans adjacent said pointed ends for preventing the fabric/ofthewings from working'up' pastsaid points ontosaid arms.
