WEIGHTING MOTION FOR DRAFTING ROLLERS Filed March 27, 1946 nuenlpg- W PM Attorneys- Patented Mar. 9, 1948 OFFICE WEIGHTING MOTION FOR DRAFTING ROLLERS John Schofield, Jr., Rochdale, England Application March 2'7, 1946, Serial No. 657,448 In Great Britain March 30, 1945 2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in the weighting mechanism of the drafting rollers of ring spinning frames and other textile machines.
The object of the invention is to provide an adjustable weighting mechanism without the use lOf weights.
According to the invention weighting or pressure is applied to the front and back weighting saddles of the top rollers of the drawing head through a connecting bar by a weighting lever pivotally mounted on a bracket below the roller stand and under the influence of a pressure lever also pivotally mounted on the bracket, the bracket being capable of receiving an angular movement about an axis parallel to the rollers to allow of adjustment of the weighting lever.
The invention is illustrated in and will be described with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows an end view of a drawing head havin three lines of drawing rollers and provided with a high drafting cradle.
The three bottom drawing rollers A A and A are mounted in the roller stand A and the three top rollers B B and B in the cap bar B in the usual way, weighting being applied to the top rollers by the front roller weighting saddle C and the back roller weighting saddle C A cradle C carrying high drafting belts is arranged in known way between the front and second rollers.
A connecting bar D is pivotally mounted on the front Weighting saddle C and the end e of a weighting bar E is detachably aiiixed to the lower end of the connecting bar D. The other end of the weighting bar E is pivotally mounted at e on a bracket F. A pressure lever G is also pivotally mounted at g on the bracket F. One end 9 of the pressure lever G is shaped so as to be easily operated by hand and the other end 9 is formed to be moved into pressure contact with the upper surface vof the weighting bar E near its pivot point e Thus when the pressure lever G is moved into the position shown in the drawing it applies a downward pressure to the weighting lever E which pressure is transmitted through the connecting bar D to the weighting saddles C and C The movement of the pressure lever G is limited by the stop 9! which prevents the lever being moved beyond the position of maximum pressure.
To permit of adjustment of the bracket F and weighting bar E the bracket F is carried on a bar H parallel to the rollers of the drafting head and rotatably mounted in a bracket 72. secured to a second bracket h affixed to the frame at one end of the roller stand A. A radial armed bracket M is also secured to the bar H and the bracket has a slot m working over a stud m so that by tightening a nut on the stud the bracket M can be held in any position. By loosening the nut on the stud m the bar H can be given an angular movement in the bracket h and the position of the bracket F and the weighting lever E adjusted. Any other suitable means can be employed for permitting and preventing rotation of the bar H for adjustment of the bracket F and weighting lever E.
I claim:
1. Weighting mechanism for the top drafting rollers of the drawing heads of ring spinning frames and other textile machines comprising the combination with the front and back weighting saddles of a weighting lever arranged below the rollers and pivotally mounted on a bracket, a connecting bar connecting the front weighting saddle to the front end of the weighting lever, a two armed pressure lever also pivotally mounted on the bracket and capable of being moved about its pivot to bring one of its arms into pressure contact with the weighting lever, a rotatable bar on which the bracket is secured, the axis of the bar being parallel to the axes of the drafting rollers, bearings for the said bar and means for imparting an angular movement to the bar for adjusting the position of the bracket to allow of adjustment of the weighting lever.
2. Weighting mechanism for the top drafting rollers of the drawing heads of ring spinning frames and other textile machines comprising the combination with the front and back weighting saddles of a weighting lever arranged below the rollers and pivotally mounted on a bracket, a connecting bar connecting the front weighting saddle to the front end of the weighting lever, a two armed pressure lever also pivotally mounted on the bracket and capable of being moved about its pivot to bring one of its arms into pressure contact with the weighting lever, a rotatable bar on which the bracket is secured, the axis of the bar being parallel to the axes of the drafting rollers, bearings for the said bar means for imparting to the bar a movement about its axis for adjusting the position of the bracket to allow of adjustment of the weighting lever and means for locking the bar and bracket in any desired position.
