Description

Feb. 10, 1948.
GLOVE Filed April 18, 1945 Patented Feb. 10, 1948 `UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GLOVE Benjamin Lembeck, Laurelton, N. Y.
Application April 18, 1945, Serial No. 588,906
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to gloves adapted to be worn on either the left or the right hand of the user and its object is to locate a single pocket for the thumb at the outer edge of the glove. When Worn, the palm side of the glove may be shifted to the back of the Wearers hand according to which thumb is placed in the single pocket.
In the drawings accompanying this application:
Figure 1 shows the glove as worn on the left hand.
Fig. 2 shows the same glove in position to be worn on the right hand.
Fig. 3 shows a modified form of fingered glove with an extended culi.
Fig. 4 is a sectional detail of the edge of the glove on the line -x of Fig. 1.
The improved glove is made of identical blanks and seamed at their edges as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and are provided with cuffs of fur 5 folded upward butcapable of being unfolded and drawn down or extended as in Fig. 3, to provide greater covering for the wrist.
A short distance above the cuff at one edge is an opening 6 to which is secured a thumb pocket 1, made of a single piece, folded and the free sides folded and stitched. This single pocket as shown in Fig. 1 is ready to receivethe thumb of the left hand as the hand is inserted into the glove and the face of that glove is the palm, while the glove in Fig. 2 is the palm for the right han-d, the back of the glove not being shown in the drawings.
Around that edge of the glove opposite the thumb pocket the blanks are not united but have the opening closed by a plait 8 shown by a dotted line in Fig. 1 and in the detailed sectional view in Fig. 4, which permits freedom of movement of the hand and protects the entire hand from the cold air.
The cuffs shown in Figs. 1 and 2 are doubled and the lower end fol-ded upward from a line about the middle of the entire cuff, while Fig. 3 shows the cuff unfolded for further protection of the wrist and showing the bare insides of the cuiT. The latter View also shows how a thumb pocket may also be used on a fingered glove.
It is obvious that the case may be otherwise altered and modified without departing from the essential features above described or from the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A combined right and left hand mitten adapted to be turned over and placed on either han-d, said mitten comprising identical front and rear blanks, a thumb receiving pocket carried by one side of the mitten adjacent its inner end, a continuous pleat connecting the edges of the blanks and extending from adjacent the outer end of the thumb pocket around the outer end of the mitten and to the rear en-d of the mitten side opposite the thumb pocket.
