Immediately beneath the ejector, which is slotted as at l longitudinally of the center thereof, there is provided an arcuate cradle piece 20 which closely hugs the bottom surface of the dispenser is so that a cigarette lodged in the slot it will roll along the upper surface of the cradle piece 28 as the dispenser is oscillated in its tracks I5.

The cradle piece 29 is connected at its ends to the side or end members l4 and is also suitably secured along the bottom thereof to the base H. Beneath th side edges of the cradle piece and secured in any suitable manner to the base i I, there are provided guide strips 21 of triangular shape in cross section which provide inclines down which the discharged cigarettes roll to come to rest against the stops l3.

The end pieces i i are each provided centrally thereof with a vertical slot 23 which opens out of the top of the end. piece and terminates at its lower end at a point slightly above the track l5 so that a space is left between th cradle piece and the receptacle 24 in which space the dispenser can have free rotative sliding movement. The receptacle consists of a cylindrical container permanently closed at one end by a disc 25 having a rib '26 disposed diametrically thereof and over lying the end of th receptacle body. The opposite end of the receptacle is closed by a similar disc 2'! which is frictionally fitted into the end thereof and is held flush by engagement with the edge of the receptacle of projecting portions 28 of a rib 29 which extends diametrically across the disc 2?. The receptacle 24 is provided with a slot 30 in the wall thereof and when the receptacle is loaded with cigarettes and the disc 21 is in place, the ribs 26 and 29 will be in alignment with each other and with the slot 30 so that the receptacle can be properly positioned in the holder as illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5.

The ribs 25 and 29 rest in the vertical slots 23 so that the slot 39 of said receptacle opens to the inner or upper surface of the dispenser which, as

shown in Fig. 4, is in the process of transferring on cigarette, which has dropped out of the slot 30 to be lodged in the slot [9 of the dispenser from which it will be discharged, as indicated in outline in Fig. 4, when the slot l9 passes the edge of the cradle piece 20.

The opposite side edges of the ejector 18 are provided with lips 32 constituting finger tabs through the medium of which the dispenser may be oscillated in its track 15 to bring the slot l9 thereof into register with the slot 30 of the receptacle so that cigarettes contained in the latter can drop one at a time from the slot 30 into the slot [9 and be carried along the cradle piece for discharge at either side of the device depending upon the direction of oscillation of the dispenser. 4

When the latter is in the position shown in full lines in Fig. 5 the slots [9 and 30 will be in register and one cigarette will drop into the dispenser. The lips 32 constitute a stop to limit the oscillating movement of the ejector by contact with either of the opposite edges of the cradle member 20. In these positions of the dispenser, the slot I9 has cleared the edges of said cradle strip.

When the device is to be loaded, the receptacle 24 is lifted out of the end members l4 and the disc 2'! removed so that the receptacle can be refilled.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. A combination cigarette receptacle and dispenser comprising a holder including a base and spaced vertical end members each shaped to provide an arcuate track and a vertical groove, a cigarette receptacle removably disposed between the end members in said grooves and having a slot longitudinally of the bottom thereof, a dispenser mounted for oscillating movement in said tracks and having a longitudinal slot for vertical register with the slot of said receptacle, a cradle piece connecting said end members and underlying said dispenser to close the slot in the latter and over the lateral edges of which the slot in the dispenser passes as the latter is oscillated to discharge cigarettes singly at opposite sides of said device, and ribs on the opposite ends of said receptacle for engagement in said vertical grooves to support the receptacle in place between said end members.

2. A combination cigarette receptacle and dispenser comprising a holder including a base and spaced vertical end members each shaped to provide an arcutate track and a vertical groove, a cigarette receptacle removably disposed between the end members in said grooves and having a slot longitudinally of the bottom thereof, a dispenser mounted for oscillating movement in said tracks and having a longitudinal slot for vertical register with the slot of said receptacle, a cradle piece connecting said end members and underlying said dispenser to close the slot in the latter and over the lateral edges of which the slot in the dispenser passes as the latter is oscillated to discharge cigarettes singly at opposite sides of said device, closure discs in the ends of said receptacle, ribs on said discs overlying the ends of said receptacle and arranged to fit into said vertical grooves, and one of said discs being removably held in the end of said receptacle.

3. A dispensing device comprising a base having end walls mounted thereon, a cylinder disposed horizontally between the end walls and provided with a wall having a longitudinal delivery opening on its lowermost side, a semicylindrical dispenser mounted to oscillate under and against said cylinder to close said opening and provided with an opening midway of its sides to receive an article from the opening of the cyl inder, said dispenser being provided with stops disposed on opposite sides of the cylinder, a cradle member on which the dispenser may be manually oscillated having a width considerably less than that of the dispenser, and stops located on the base outwardly of the cradle member, whereby the dispenser may be oscillated and delivery may be made on either of the opposite sides of the cylinder.
