Description

HENRY HENLEY,
OE' NEW YAORK, N. v.
MATTRESS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 24,32Lclated'ffune 7, 1859.
To alt'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY IV. HENLEY', of New York, in New York county,in the State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mattress; and I ldo hereby declare that the following is a full and exact de-` scription of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure I. is a view of my improved mattress in which A, A show the mattress and B, B, the serrated sections used in its manufacture, and forming` the mattress. Fig. II. is a sectional view of the serrated sections used in the manufacture of the mattress, and designated as B, B.
The nature of my invention consists in the employment of a series of serrated sections in' the manufacture of a mattress, which sections divide the mattress into compartments, andform apertures or perforations running vertically entirely through the mattress for the ingress and egress of the air and thereby eect ay m'ost perfect and complete ventilation.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I( will proceed to de- ,l scribe itsconstruction. "1 In manufacturing, I employ a series of serrated sections, each made separate and attached at the ends, 'employing any known means for `stutling i said series of sections when complete forming the mattress. By -thismeans a'imost perfectl ventilation is attained` t I 'am fully aware that it is no new invention to effect' ventilation by the use or employment of perforations. I am also aware that sections have'beenvpreviously employed for the purpose olf producing ventilation.
I/Vhat I claimv as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is* The use or employment of the serrated sections B, B, when the same shall be combined for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand this sixteenth day of May 1859.
