My invention relates to a process of dispersing fog over landing fields. An object of this invention is to provide for lighting up landing fields in fog and bad weather in such, manner that air planes may be enabled t land in comparative safety at the airport. In carrying out this idea, gutters of the proper width and length are placed on either side of the runway of the landing field. These gutters are to be flooded with water until it overflows after which a combustible liquid such as gasoline is turned on until it covers the surface of the water. Upon igniting this liquid, a blanket of flame over the field is produced which is visible at a maximum distance of overcast and which will radiate heat to disperse fog over the field.
Th novel features which I believe to be characteristic of this invention are set forth with particularity in the appended claims. The invention itself, however, both as to organization and method of operation, together with additional objects and advantages thereof, will be best understood from the following description of specific embodiments when read in connection with the accompanying drawings in which,
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a landing field.
Fig. 2 is a view on an enlarged scale showing the construction as it appears when cut through on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of a slight modification.
Referring to the construction shown in the drawings, the numeral 4 designates a landing field along side of which preferably on both sides thereof, concrete gutters are located. A main gutter is indicated by the numeral 6 while an overflow gutter is indicated by the numeral 5. In Fig. 2, there are two pipes 1 and 8 in connection with the main gutter, one of these pipes being for supplying water, the other one for supplying a combustible medium such as gasoline. The overflow gutter is connected with the main gutter by overflow passages 9. A pipe l0 serves to carry away water from the overflow gutter. Preferably the overflow gutter is located adjacent the outer edge of the main gutter and at a somewhat lower level.
The modification in Fi 3 shows a main gutter 5' and an overflow gutter 6' with overflow passages 9'. This modification shows no pipes since it will be understood that water and gasoline may be supplied to the gutters in any suitable manner.
The operation and advantages of my invention will be apparent in connection with the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings. The flame from the cumbustible liquid not only serves to light the field but also serves to disperse fog thereover.
I claim:
1. A process of dispersing fog over landing fields which consists in flooding the outer margins of the fields with water, covering the surface of the water with a combustible liquid, and igniting said liquid.
2. A process of dispersing fog over landing fields which consists in flooding the outer margins of the fields with water, covering the surface of the water with gasoline, and igniting the gasoline.
