This invention relates to bag Ysupports and particularly to equipment for operably carrying a refuse bag in a convenient position where the open top thereof is readily accessible to receive scraps, and the primary aim is the provision of such a device wherein is included unique elements for supporting the refuse bag in an open condition; means for removably clamping the mouth of the bag in place beneath a swingable cover; and a yoke for underlying the bottom of the bag whereby to absorb the weight of the bag and its contents.

Another object of this invention is to provide a refuse bag holder wherein is included quick acting means for permitting replacement of the bag and for holding the same in an ever convenient condition where the open mouth is normally closed by a member forming a part of the holder assembly.

Other objects of the invention include the unique manner of supporting the refuse bag along opposed sides thereof and at its bottom, as the mouth is held open in the fashion above set forth.

Additional aims of the invention will appear during the course of the following specification, referring to the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a refuse bag holder, made in accordance with the present invention.

Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof taken on line II-II of Fig. l; and

Fig. 3 is a top perspective view of a portion of the refuse bag holder without a bag therein.

Disposal of refuse such as garbage that accumulates in kitchens, scraps and trash that collects in hospital wards at the patients beds, and worthless accumulations of trash elsewhere, is desirably deposited in a receptacle from which the refuse or the like need not be emptied when disposal is finally effected. Accordingly, refuse bags of moisture proof material, are being employed but adequate supports for the lbags are not available, nor are those supports currently obtainable, capable of holding the bag in a convenient condition until the same is filled with the disposable substances above mentioned.

The refuse -bag holder embodying my invention, is capable of mounting a. bag and holding the same until it is completely filled. The holder has means for supporting all of the weight which accumulates as the contents of the bag increases and throughout the time it is being used, the open mouth thereof is normally closed by a cover rendering access to the contents impossible so Y 2 far asivermin, insects, and `even children are concerned.

The refuseV bag holder chosen for illustration is inexpensive to manufacture, strong and easy to manipulate when bag replacement is necessary.

In the drawing, the numeral Ill designates a bag formedof sheet material andsuitably waterproof, but the thickness of the material is minimized because of the unique support afforded by the holder.

The holder is unitary when shipped t0 the dealer or consumer by the manufacturer,` and comprises a frame generally designated by the numeral I2 and consisting of an outer section I4 that circumscribes bag ID when the mouth thereof is held in an open position by an inner collapsible section I6. Section I6 comprises a pair of substantially U-shaped members, the legs whereof are overlapped and pivotally interconnected as at I8 to permit relative swinging movement of the members when a bag I0 is being placed or removed.

Section I4 has an inturned ange 20 along its lower edge and it is upon this flange ZU that section I6 rests when in the operative position. Reference to Fig. 2 readily indicates the manner in which the marginal edge of the bag I 0 is confined between sections I4 and I 6 when the parts are in the condition for use.

The outer surface of section IB lies snugly against the inner face of section I4 and the ends of the legs of the U-shaped member that assumes the innermost position, extend beyond pivotal points I8 to present a grip for the purpose of facilitating manipulation.

Frame I2 has a bracket Z2 on the side constituting the back thereof, and this bracket is perforated as at 24 to receive screws or other fastening means to mount the entire assembly. The upper portion of bracket 22 is curled as at 26 to receive a hinge rod 28 that passes through a curled portion 3U formed on cover 32. This cover therefore, is swingable to and from the closed position illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, and a lip 34 thereon affords a convenient grip for the operator.

Cover 32 is flanged along the ends and forward edge thereof to telescope with frame I2 and thereby effectively seal and close the upper end of bag Il).

To support the weight of bag I0 and such materials as may lbe dropped thereinto, I provide a depending yoke including legs 36 and a bight 38. The upper end of legs 38 are secured to the outer section I4 of frame I2 by welding or any other suitable means, and the bight 38 carries a tray 40, the form whereof is such as to embrace the bottom of bag l0 and prevent its lateral displacement.

'I'he arcuate tray 40 cooperates with legs 36 in securing bag l0 in place and legs 36 preclude bulging of the bag as it is filled.

The use of tray 40 eliminates the necessity of a tight gripping action at frame I2, and therefore, the material from which bag I0 is made may .be thinner' and less expensive. This is particularly important because the bag is destroyed with its contents when removed from the holder.

The particular form of the refuse bag holder may be altered without departing from the spirit of the invention or scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:

1. A refuse bag holder comprising an outer Vframe section adapted for positioning at the mouth of the bag and in circumscribing relation thereto; an inturned ange around one edge of the frame; an inner frame section having a pairof U-shaped members pivotally connected to the outer frame section and shiftable about their pivots for movement to and from a position resting upon the flange.

2. A refuse bag holder of the kind set forth in claim 1 wherein the U-shaped members have the legs thereof in overlapping relation and wherein the overlapping legs are interconnected by the said pivotal connections.
