'1 Claims.

This invention relates to brassieres and other garments employing breast supporting pockets or members with means for supporting such pockets upon the body of the wearer. More particularly, the invention deals with garments of the kind defined wherein a pair of pockets include a single brace or supporting frame encircling peripheral portions of the pockets and Joined by a bridging member or loop disposed intermediate l2 and I3 ofthe edge seams, as at l8 and ii, are bands 29 and 30 secured together in such manner as to form elongated channels 3| and 32, one of which is shown in cross-section in Fig. 3 and in partial longitudinal section in Fig. 4.

In Fig. 1 of the drawing, I have shown, to illustrate one adaptation and use of my invention, a brassiere having a pair of similar pockets ill and II. The pockets have lower curved edges l2 and I3 and upwardly extending contracted portions l4 and ii, to which adjustable shoulder straps l4 and H are secured. The side portions of the pockets Ill and II have substantially straight vertical edges i8 and I9, to which are attachedside and back bands and2 the rear ends 01 which terminate in elastic straps 22 and 23, having means, as at 24, fordetachablycoupling the same at the back of the wearer. The shoulder straps l6 and I! are attached to the- bands 20 and 2|, as at 25 and 26.

The pockets l0 and II may be of any desired construction and composed of one or two sheets of material, which preferably have darts, as at 21 and 28, to give the bust conforming contour to the pockets. It will be apparent that the ends 49 and 50 of the curved breast encircling portions 42 and 43 extend to the sides of the garment to extend the support of the pockets beyond what might be considered a truly circular or semi-circular contour. This braces and reinforces the support of the brassiere at the sides of the body and aids in maintaining the garment firmly upon the body of the wearer and with the breasts in a raised and youthful position. The ends 33 and 34 actually extend to a point above the center of the pockets; whereas the ends 35 and 36 are substantially in alinement with the center of the pockets.

In the present construction, the member 4| is shown as composed of a strand or rod, preferably of metal, and having spring properties so as to substantially maintain a predetermined or desired shape, while, at the same time, being capable of yielding to compensate for breasts of different sizes. It will be understood, however, that the supporting and reinforcing member may be composed of any suitable material and shaped in any desired manner to adapt itself for the detachable mounting with such portions of a garment as encircle part of the breasts at the base of the breasts.

It will also be apparent that, with different types and kinds of brassires and other garments including breast pockets as an integral part thereof, such for example as slips, bathing suits and other garments, the pocket structures will be built into the garments. In other words, the garments will be joined by other body portions than simply the loops or bridge members 46, as well as the bands and 2| and shoulder straps l6 and I! in maintaining and supporting the pockets upon the body of the wearer.

The member 4| provides a unitary supporting frame structure in contrast to individual supporting frames employed in conjunction with each pocket, as is known in the art. Furthermore, the provision of pocket structures adapting the brace member or supporting frame for detachable mounting therewith to facilitate laundering of the garment constitutes another distinctive feature of the invention.

The loops 44 and 45 maybe considered as coupling loops or other projecting elements which extend beyond the bridge member and are partially formed by extended ends of the curved portions 42 and 43. It is these coupling members which retain the supporting frame or yoke against displacement from the pockets, or the channel forming portions thereof. It will also be apparent that the ends 49 and 50 of the supporting frame extend outwardly from what would be the normal circular contour of the The purpose of this is to extend the support of the frame to the side seams, particularly at a point above lower ends' of these seams, as is clearly illustrated in Fig, l of the drawing.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: t

1. In garments having breast pockets, means forming channels bordering portions of the periphery of the pockets, said means having openings adjacent and inwardly of ends of the chan; nel at adjacent sides of the pockets, a unit breast supporting frame, said frame having end Portions adapted for detachable mounting in the channels of the pockets through said openings to reinforce the channelled portions of the pockets, a bridge member integrally joining and spacing said end portions centrally of the frame, and end portions of the frame joining the bridge member in loops fitting in the channels ends at adjacent sides of the pockets in retaining the pockets against displacement from the frame.

2. A brace member for breast pockets of garmerits of the kind defined, said member comprising curved end portions joined and integrally coupled by a U-shaped bridge part, the curved end portions of said end member adjacent the bridge part having projecting coupling loops, and said loops joining the bridge part in shoulder portions.

3. A brassiere of the class described comprising a pair of breast supporting pockets, said pockets having side and back bands for supporting the brassiere around the body of the wearer, each pocket having channels bordering edge portions of the pockets, the pockets having opening into said channels inwardly of and adjacent ends of the channels at inner sides of the pockets, a onepiece bracing member having end portions arranged in the channels of said pockets and detachable with respect to said channels through said openings, a bridge part integrally joining said end portions and spacing inner sides of the pockets, and-said bridge part joining the end portions in loops arranged in the channel end adjacent said openings in retaining said member against displacement from said pockets.

In garments having breast pockets, means forming channels bordering portions of the periphery of the pockets, said means having openings adjacent and inwardlyof ends of the channels at adjacent sides of the pockets, a, pocket bracing member comprising-curved end portions adapted for detachable mounting in the channels of said pockets through said openings, a U- shaped bridge part integrally joining and spacing adjacent ends of the curved portions of said member, and said bridge part forming of the adjacent ends of the curved portions extending coupling loops adapted to be mounted in said channel ends.in retaining the pocket against displacement from the curved end portions of said member.

5. In garments having breast pockets, means adapted for detachable mounting in the channels of said pockets through said openings, a U-shaped bridge part integrally joining and spacing adjacent ends of the curved portions of said bridge, said bridge part forming of the adjacent ends of the curved portions extending coupling loops adapted to be mounted in said channel ends in retaining the pockets against displacement from the curved end portions of said member, and said bridge part comprising a reversely curved loop joining said coupling loops in shoulder portions and yieldably coupling the curved end portions.

6. The combination with braissires having independent breast covering pockets with means forming channels at predetermined bordering edges of the pockets, with the channels extendthrough said openings in coupling said pockets supporting parts terminating in outwardly diverging end portions, a bridge part integrally joining and spacing adjacent ends of the first named parts in loop ends, and said loop ends extending into the channel ends in retaining the pockets against displacement from the curved pocket supporting parts of said member.

A brassire of the class described comprising a pair of breast supporting pockets, said pockets having side and back bands for supporting the brassiere around the body of the wearer, each pocket having, at inner adjacent sides, a, channel bordering the edge portion of the pocket, a onepiece brace member comprising channel engaging parts and a bridge portion integrally joining said parts, and said parts of the brace member and the channelled edge portions of the pockets having interengaging means retaining the pockets against accidental displacement from said parts while permitting manually controlled attachment and detachament or the pockets with respect to said parts or the brace member.
