z claims. 1
This invention relates to stoves and particularly to a stove cabinet.
It has been the practice in the art to construct a stove from separate top, front and back panels which rest upon a separately constructed base cabinet. It is the main object of the present invention to reduce the number of stampings which are employed in a stove and to simplify the stove cabinet construction.
A main stamping is formed to embody a back, top and the upper portion of a front panel, the edges of which are inwardly flanged. The flanges mate with inwardly flanged edges of side panels to which the top panel is bolted, or otherwise secured. A sill panel having a kick recess in the bottom is bolted, or otherwise secured, at the bottom iianged portion of the side panels. The compartments, not herein illustrated, formed in the cabinet portion of the stove provides the bracing therefor and supports for the doors and drawers, which complete the front panel construction of the stove cabinet.
The top panel may have the front flange extend to the base of the cabinet and have the compartment openings formed therein as well as the kick recess in the bottom. The side panels are bolted, or otherwise secured, at the sides of the main stampings to complete the cabinet construction. Y
Another object of the invention is to form a cabinet from a central main stamping containing the back, top and front panels which are flanged at the side edges and side panels having flanges which mate with the flanges of the main stamping and are secured thereto to complete the cabinet structure.
A still further object of the invention is to reduce the number of break lines between the panels of a stoveV cabinet by offsetting the `side flange of the top panel from the bottom edge of the top portion of the front panel and providing front panels for oven doors and drawers which extend to the outside faces of the side when they are disposed flush with the front panel.
A further object of the invention pertains to the construction embodying the combination of a unit top and back panel joined to a unit containing the front and side panels.
Other objects and features of novelty of this `invention will be specifically pointed out or will become apparent when referring, for a better understanding of the invention, to the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove embodying features of this invention;
Fig. 2 is an exploded view of the main cabinet portion of the stove illustrated in Fig. l:
Fig. 3 -is a view of structure, similar to that i1- lustrated in Fig. 2, showing a modified form thereof; and
Fig. 4 is a view of structure, similar to that illustrated in Fig. 2, showing a further form which the invention may assume.
Referring particularly to Figs. l and 2, the stove cabinet embodies a main stamping II having a back panel I2, a top panel I3 and atop portion I4 of the front panel. The panels have side anges I5, which are further llanged inwardly at I6. Side panels I1 and I8 have in wardly projecting flanges I9 which mate with the flanges I6 on the main stamping. These anges are secured to each other by bolts, spot welding, or by other means.
A sill 4stamping 2l having a kick recess 22 is provided with an inner flange 23 at the ends which join the lower portion of the flange I9 of 4 the side panels Il and I8, to which they are bolt- 25 ed, spot welded, or otherwise secured.
When forming the main stamping I I, the burner openings 25 may be provided therein as well as openings 26 for control elements disposed in the top portion I4 of the front panel. The cabinet is reinforced by the oven and drawer compartment structure which is disposed therewithin for supporting the oven and compartment doors 21 and the front panels 28 of the drawers. In the construction illustrated in Fig. 1, the doors 21 and panels 28 extend across the entire front face of the stove cabinet in aligned relation to the top portion I4 of the front panel and the sill stamping 2 I.
Referring to Fig. 3, a further form of the invention is illustrated, that wherein the main stamping 3| embodies a. back panel I I2, a top panel I3 and a front panel 32 which extends to the bottom of the cabinet. The front panel has openings 33 formed therein in an offset portion 34 of 45 which a ledge for the oven and compartment doors and the front panels of the drawers is provided. The sides of the panels are anged at .I5 and I6, as provided in the structure illustrated in Fig. 2, which in the present construction extend to the bottom of the cabinet. Side panels Il and I8 have the ange I9 thereof mated with the ilanges I6 of the main stamping and are bolted, spot welded, or otherwise secured together. In this construction, the compartment and oven 55 doors and the front panels of the drawers are 'I'he side panel portions 42 have inwardly pro-` jecting top flanges 44, while the front panel portion 43 has a top ange 45. The iront panel portion contains a kick recess 4B and door and drawer openings 41. After the top stamping and cabinet portion are finished, they are secured together by the flanges 44 and 45, secured to like anges on the bottom of the top stamping. Oven structure and' drawer supports strengthen the cabinet and provide a support for the doors and drawers. v
What is claimed is:
1. In a stove cabinet. a top panel flanged at the sides and formed upwardly at the back and downwardly at the front to provide a splash back portion and a front panel portion which are substantially in parallel relation, inwardly directed flanges at the bottom of the side flanges extending above the bottom of the front panel portion, and side panels joined to said inwardly directed flanges and forming a smooth continuation of said side flanges.
2. In a stove cabinet enclosing a manifold having valves extending therefrom, a top panel flanged at the sides and formed upwardly at the back and downwardly at the front to provide a splash back portion and a front panel portion 4 which are substantially in parallel relation, said panel portion lbeing of a length to extend over and cover the stove manifold and valves, inwardly directed flanges at the bottom of the side ilanges extending above the bottom of the front panel portion, and side panels joined to said inwardly directed flanges and forming a smooth continuation of said side flanges.
