The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in swings for children and has for its primary object to provide foot operated means adapted to produce the swinging motion of the swing.
An important object of the present invention is to provide a novel attaching bracket by means of which the swing may be suspended from a crossbar of either square shape in cross section or of a tubular formation.
A further important object of the invention is to provide a swing of this character adapted for operation by little exertion and which at the same time is strong and durable in construction, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages designed in the details of construction and operation are more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference to be had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view;
Figure 2 is a front elevational view and Figure 3 is a detail of a modified clamping construction for attaching the swing supporting bracket to a tubular or transversely rounded support.
Referring now to the drawing in detail and first with respect to the following invention illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing, the numeral 5 designates an attaching bracket generally, which includes the lower clamping block 6 and an upper clamping spectively below and above a crossbar 8 by means of bolts 9, The opposed faces of the blocks 6 and I are recessed to snugly receive the crossbar as shown to advantage in Figure 1 of the drawing.
A pair of plates in extend downwardly from opposite sides of the lower clamping block 6, the plate In thus being disposed in face parallel relation and a pin H extends transversely of the plate III at their lower edges on which a bushing 12 is journalled.
A pair of bars l3 are secured at their upper ends on the bushing I2 and are suspended downwardly therefrom in face parallel relation and have horizontally extending seat supporting brackets M attached adjacent the lower ends of the bars l3, the brackets l4 extending laterally from one side of the bars l3 and have a seat l5 attached at their outer ends. Braces l5 extend from the brackets it immediately in front of the seat and are attached to the bars l3 above the brackets block 1 connected rep a tubular cross member 24 by means of a I4. Hand grips I! are carried by the braces IS.
A pivot pin I8 is attached at the lower ends of the bars l3 and to which a walking beam I9 is pivotally attached intermediate the ends of the latter, the walking beam having a foot support 20 attached at one end and having a link 21 pivotally attached at its upper end and extending upwardly at an inclined angle between the bars 13 and pivotally attached at its upper end to a bracket 22 attached to the lower clamping block 6 by bolts 23.
The walking beam I9 is pivoted off center with its shorter end attached to the link 2! and its longer end having the foot support 20 attached thereto, the foot support being positioned under the bracket M of the seat and in position for enga-gement by the foot of a child when occupying the seat.
Accordingly, in the operation of the device,.a downward pressure exerted on the foot support 20 of the walking beam l9 causing an upward force to be exerted on the short end of the walking beam which, being transmitted to the stationary bracket 22 by the link 2| will cause a swinging of the seat supporting bars i3 in one direction and upon releasing of the foot pressure on the walking beam l9 the bars i3 and the seat attached thereto will gravitate in an opposite direction and thus produce a pendulous swinging action.
In Figure 3 of the drawing, I have illustrated a clamping structure for attaching the swing to plate 25 securing to the lower clamping block 6 by bolts 26, the plate 25 having a lower clamping member 21 carried thereby attached to an upper clamping member 28 by means of the bolts 29 for clamping engagement with the tubular crossbar 24. Set screws 3|] and 3| carried by the upper and lower clamping members respectively engage the crossbar to secure the clamping member against rotary movement thereon.
It is believed the details of construction, manner of operation and advantages of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A swing comprising a transverse pair of upper and lower horizontal attaching members, means for detachably connecting the members respectively above and below a horizontal supporting beam, a pair of spaced parallel brackets extending downwardly from the lower one of said attaching members, a third bracket detachably secured to and extending downwardly from said lower attaching member in offset relation to said pair of brackets, a pendulous bar pivoted at its upper end to said pair of brackets and having a seat supported thereon at its lower end and laterally projected so as to be disposed normally beneath said third bracket in a plane extending vertically through said bracket, and means carried by the bar and connected to said third bracket for actuating the bar swingably, said means includ- ,10
