Description

A r l 23, 1946. -A. s. KAA
EARRING Filed Oct. 14, 1944 Patented Apr. 23, 1946 UITED STATES PATENT OFFICE EARRING August S. Kaa, Los Angeles, Calif.
Application October 14, 1944, Serial No. 558,661
1 Claim.
This invention relates to jewelry, and especially to ear rings, and has for its object to provide an ear adornment so constructed that it may be very quickly and securely attached to the lobe of the ear, and as quickly removed therefrom.
A principal object of the invention is to provide a spring projected clip which can easily be locked in an out-of-the-way open position for quick attachment to the ear lobe.
A further object of the invention is to provide an ear adornment device of very light and inexpensive construction.
Another object of the invention is to provide an open ear engaging loop provided with automatic means for closing and holding the same secured to the ear.
Other features and advantages will become more apparent from the following description, and the accompanying illustrative drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is an enlarged side elevational view of my invention of ear lobe clip.
Figure 2 is another elevational view of the device.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on theline 3-3 of Figure 1; and
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 1, showing the device in locked open position ready to be attached to the ear.
Like reference characters indicate like parts, throughout the following specification and in the several views in the drawing in which I indicates my ear spring kick-back which consists of a U- member 2 provided with an elongated arm 3 to which a jewel or ornament 4 may be secured.
The arm 5 of the member 2 is relatively shorter than arm 3, and is turned out horizontally as at 6 to form a support for a short tube 1 in which a rod 8 is slidably mounted. This rod is provided with an oval head 9, which is convex on its outer surface I0, which head is normally urged toward the arm 3 by a spring ll coiled upon the rod, one end of which spring bears against the inner surface I2 of member ID, and its other end against the outer end l3 of the tube 1.
Fixed to the extreme end 14 of said rod 3, is a disk [5 which forms'a handle by which the rod may be manipulated.
Fixed to the arm 5 adjacent the bend N thereof, is a catch l8 between which and said arm 5, one of the elongated terminals [9 or 20 of member 9 may be engaged in order to hold the rod open and out of locking position While the device is being adjusted to an ear lobe.
In order to apply the device to the ear the member [5 is pulled outwardly of arm 3, and given a half turn in order to engage one of the ends l9 or 20 in back of the catch member I8, as indicated in Figure 4 of the drawing, then the U-member is looped over the ear lobe and the member l5 given another twist or half turn to release the same, whereby the spring II will come into action and drive the rod outwardly, pressing the member 9 tightly against the ear lobe, clamping the latter between itself and the arm 3, securely holding the device to the ear until the operation is reversed.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawing. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Minor changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts, such as come within the purview of the invention claimed, may be resorted to in actual practice if desired.
Having now described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
An ornament supporting clip comprising a U- member, one arm of which forms a jaw, the other arm of the U-member having its end turned out- Wardly at right angles on a lower plane than the first jaw, a tube fixed on said end and a rod slidable in the tube, an oval convex jaw member fixed on the rod, a spring coiled on the rod between said last jaw and said tube to actuate the rod and a catch on the last arm engageable by an end of said oval member to lock the jaws apart against the tension of the spring.
