Definitions
- the invention relates to lacquering and inking rollers for lithographic, printing and lacquering machines, and has for its object to provide improvements therein whereby said rollers have a longer useful life, retain the required degree of resiliency, are not adversely afiected by inks, lacquers and cleansing preparations, are sympathetic to the form, that is to say, they do not damage the latter and have a consistent inking action throughout, and may be reconditioned from time to time at a minimum of cost.

' INKING AND LACQUERING ROLLERS FOR LITHOGRAPHIC PRINTING AND LACQUERING MACHINES Filed Feb. 7. 1942 FRANK Fdx ,4 7 TDRNE Y5:
atented Jan. l5, l9
QUEEING MAC Fox, Halifax, England Application February 2, 1942, Seriai No. 429,922 in Great Britain February 7, 19411 1 Claim. 91-4573) The invention relates to lacquering and inking rollers for lithographic, printing and lacquering machines, and has for its object to provide improvements therein whereby said rollers have a longer useful life, retain the required degree of resiliency, are not adversely afiected by inks, lacquers and cleansing preparations, are sympathetic to the form, that is to say, they do not damage the latter and have a consistent inking action throughout, and may be reconditioned from time to time at a minimum of cost.
According to the present invention the improved rollers comprise a shaft or mandrel covered with ground or agglomerate cork, The cork may be secured to the mandrel by cement or other adhesive, or a covering of textile material, rubber, felt, or the like may be cemented to the mandrel, upon which is superimposed and cemented thereto a layer, layers, block, blocks or the like of ground or agglomerate cork. The cork may be in plane form with the ends thereof in abutment, tapered and overlapping, or stepped and overlapping, or it may be applied in a spiral manner.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a side view of the roller described, with parts shown in section.
Figure 2 is a sectional end view of the roller.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
A is an appropriate mandrel or shaft provided with the customary trunnions B, and cemented imposed and cemented thereto a layer or layers of ground or agglomerate cork D.
In the embodiment of the invention, shown, the mandrel is provided with a textile or similar cover C and may have mounted and cemented thereon centrally bored blocks of ground cork D, whose ends are in abutment and are cemented together at F, said blocks being subsequently treated to produce the desirable cylindrical contour, as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing.
By these means, in addition to attaining the objects already set forth, the textile or similar element is adapted to impart additional resiliency to the cork cover D and also permits the latter to be much more securely attached to the mandrel than would otherwise be the case if such element were omitted.
Should the rollers get out of true owing to wear they can be again turned, ground or otherwise treated to render them perfectly cylindrical again and need not be re-covered as is the case with rubber-covered and similar rollers.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
Inking and lacquering rollers for lithographic, printing and lacquering machines, comprising a mandrel having cemented thereto a covering of textile material, centrally bored blocks of ground cork being subsequently cemented to said textile material and the cork treated so as to have an absolutely cylindrical contour, said textile material imparting additional resiliency to the cork blocks and providing means for insuring the blocks being securely attached to the mandrel.
