The invention relates to new and useful improvements in a fiber container and more particularly to a means for closing and sealing the same.
An object of the invention is to provide a fiber 5 shoulder and ensure a tight sealing of the disk to container having a filling opening which is the body welladapted to be closed and sealed by a fiber plug. While a sealing material has been described as used in connection'with the eyelet, and an adhesive used in connection with the plug, it will be understood that for certain uses of the con-' tainer the sealing material and adhesive may be omitted. The eyelet is mechanically secured to the container end and the closure plug is mechanically secured to the eyelet for closing the container. While the plug is described as made of fiber material, it will be understood that any kind of material may be used such as metal, rubber, or .the like, but it is essential that the material used shall be capable of being expanded for the securing of the plug to the eyelet without rupturing the material.
It is obvious thatmany changesin the details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as setforth in the appended claims.
I claim:
,1. A fiber container having anend closure disk provided with an opening therethroug h, an eyelet secured to said disk in this opening, a cup-shaped plug adapted to be placed in said eyelet for closing and sealing the container, said plug having a flange at its outer end for limiting the extent to which the plug is inserted in the eyelet, said plug being dimensioned so as to project into the container beyond the eyelet, and means disposed within said plug for expanding the inner end portion of the plug projecting beyond the eyelet to a diameter larger than the diameter of the eyelet for firmly attaching the plug to the eyelet and sealing the container.
2. A fiber container having an end closure disk provided with an opening therethrough, an eyelet secured to said disk in said opening with the flanges of the eyelet overlying the inner and outer faces of the disk, a sealing material disposed between the eyelet and the disk, a cup-shaped plug adapted to be placed in the eyelet for closing the container, said plug having a flange at its outer end, for limiting the extent to which the plug is inserted in the eyelet, said plug being dimensioned so as to project into the container beyond the eyelet, an adhesive sealing material disposed between the plug and eyelet for sealing the same and means disposed within the plug for expanding the inner end portion of the plug projecting beyond the eyelet to a diameter larger than the inner diameter of the eyelet for firmly drawing the plug into contact with the eyelet and sealing the container.
