1 Claim.
My invention relates to an improvement in garment construction. 7
My invention relates more particularly to an improved construction of blouses or similar garments and is characterized in having improvements in the shape of the front, back and sleeve portions whereby the arm of the wearer can be raised or swung in an upwardly directed are without pulling the blouse out of a lower garment such as a dress, trouser or other lower garment.
,The principal object of the present invention is to provide an improved construction of the various parts of .a blouse, shirt or similar garment having sleeves whereby when the wearer's arm is raised or swung in an are, there will be no strain or pull upon the lower portions of the arment.
A further object of the invention is to provide a comparatively simple pattern of the sleeve, front, back and yoke which when sewed together form a garment which permits freedom of movement of the wearer' arm without any pull or strain upon the lower part of the garment.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment of the type described constructed of a few simple portions that can be easily and cheaply made, with a minimum of material and yet durable and capable of withstanding the usage set forth above, without tearing or otherwise becoming worn out.
Other objects and advantages will be more apparent from the following description wherein reference is had to the accompanying four sheets of drawings, upon which Fig. l is a front view of a ladies blouse conmy invention, showing the bottom end of the same within the'skirt of a wearer;
Fig. 2 is a. partial side view of the same blouse showing the sleeve in a raised position such as where the wearer's arm is raised, showing the manner in which the portions of the front, back and sleeve provide the additional material necessary to permit the raising of the sleeve Without strain or stress on the lower end;
Fig. 3 is an exploded view showing in plan the two front pieces, the back, back yoke and the two sleeve pieces used in constructing the blouse shown in Figs. 1 and 2;
Fig. 4 is a similar exploded view showing the two front, the back yoke, back and the two sleeve pieces of a modified form of the invention; and
Fig. 5 is a similar exploded view showing the two front pieces, the back yoke, the back, the two I set members 52.
sleeve pieces and a pair of gussets of a modified form of the invention.
Inthe embodiment of the invention which I have chosen to illustrate, in Fig. 1 I have shown a lady's blouse generally formed with the two front pieces l2 and I4 which are adapted to overlap and are provided with buttons IS on on portion and buttonholes on the other. The front pieces are appropriately fastened to the back yoke l8 which in turn is fastened to the back piece 20. A collar, pockets, cufis, etc., have not been shown in order to make the drawings .more easily understood. A pair of sleeve complete the ensemble.
Referring now more particularly to Fig. 3 wherein each of the pieces mentioned above are shown in the plan view in separated form, it can be seen that the sleeve portions 22 and 24 are formed with the angularly printed portions 26 and 28. It will also be noted that the back portion 20 is formed with a pair of angular recessed portions 30 which, together with the angularly pointed portion 26 and 28 in the sleeve, form the section between the blouse and the sleeve in such manner that when the sleeve is: raised, as shown in Fig. 2, there will be no strain or pull along the entire seam 32 which connects the back and front portions of the blouse. It will further be apparent that because of this connection there is no pull upon the back portion and the seam between the back and the back yoke.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a modified form ofconstruction which includes plan views of the two front pieces 36, the back yoke 3'8, the back 40 and the two sleeve pieces 42. In this construction each of the sleeve pieces 42 is provided with. the additional angularly pointed portions 420 and 42b which combine with the recessed portions 36a of the front pieces and the recessed angular portions 40a of the back piece to form a sleeve and garment connection whereby sufiicient fullness is provided so that there is no strain upon the side seams when the arm is raised or swung about.
In Fig. 5 I have shown a of a modified form of the invention which includes the front pieces 44, the back yoke 46, the back piece 48, the sleeve pieces 50 and inserts or gus- With this construction it will be noted that both the front pieces and the back piece are formed with the sleeve openings 54 and 56 which are connected at their lower end and 'to the sleeves by the gusset inserts 52, in such manner that the sleeve may be raised Or lowered or swung about with the gusset inserts providpieces 22 and 24- similar exploded view ing the additional material necessary to permit 'free movement of the arms.
It is to be understood that this arrangement or that of the preferred or other modified form of the invention may be used in various garments of all sizes, such as blouses, trousers, shirts, womens and childrens dresses, etc.
While I have illustrated and described a specific embodiment of my invention, it will be clear to those slii'llediinttheaarttthatichangeaand modifications maybe made in the exact details shown; and I do not wish to be limited in any particular; rather what I desire to secure and protest;: by Letters Patent of the United States-is:
In a garment constructedfrom a plurality of cloth blanks to be sewn together to fornntheagam-"- ment, said blanks comprising, again 01 shaped front sections, a backv yoke andaiback'portion, said front sections, back yoke and back tion when sewntogether forming arm openings at the sides of the garment and adjacent its upper end, said back portion having a pair of angular notches adjacent its upper edge on opposite sides ,thereof, said front sections each also having a similarly shaped angular notch upon an outer edge thereof, a pair of similarly shaped sleeve sections, said sleeve sections each having an upper edge terminating in outwardly extending angular portibns, tlia angular portions the sleeve sections adapted-- to fitainto thenrot'ches of the back portion and the front sections, so that the 1 'sleeve section when sewn into the arm openings 013. the garment have a fullness to accommodate upward; forward, and rearward varm movement without strain of the garment material at other localities upon thevv body of the wearer.
