This invention relates to neW and useful improvements in a machine for cleaning ones hair and scalp and for stimulating the growth of hair.

More specificall the invention proposes an improved device as mentioned which is characterized by a scalp massaging member having tubular tits for engaging the scalp and connecting with a suction inlet. Means is proposed for producing suction through said scalp massaging member so as to draw in the loose dandruff and dandrufi loosened during the massaging operation. 7

The invention proposes a novel and sanitary construction for catching and holding the dandruff drawn through the scalp massaging member.

More specifically, the invention proposes to provide a strainer strip movably mounted across a passage for said suction, and to provide a cover strip mov-ably mounted to cover the used web portions of the strainer strip.

Still further the invention proposes an article as mentioned, which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

The invention further contemplates numerous forms. In one form it is proposed to provide a portable machine for moving along the floor. In another form it is proposed to provide a portable machine for resting On a table.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:

Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a machine for cleaning the hair and scalp and stimulating the growth of hair, and constructed in accordance with this invention.

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view of the scalp massaging member and the immediately adjacent portion of the'machine disclosed in Fig. 1.

The machine for cleaning ones hair and scalp and stimulating the growth of hair, includes a scalp massaging member [0 having a plurality of tubular tits II for engaging the scalp while the scalp massaging member is massaged and rubbed on the scalp. Preferably, the member In is 'constructed of rubber or other resilient material.

Said massaging member I0 is provided with a suction inlet l2 for supplying suction through the various tubular tits I I. A casing I3 is mounted upon said suction inlet l2 and is formed with a passage l4 for connecting the suction with said inlet l2.

The passage l4 also is connected with a hose [5 which is supported on a floor stand 16. This floor stand I6 is provided with casters for rolling along the floor. A suction pump I8 is mounted on the base portion of the stand 16 and is driven by an electric motor l9, also mounted on said base portion. The suction end of the pump I8 connects with a pipe line In which connects with the hose I5. A support arm 2| is mounted on the stand [6 and is of forked construction adapted to receive and hold the massaging member ID, when the latter is not being used.

A strainer strip 22 is movably mounted within the casing l3 across the passage M. This strainer strip 22 is wound onto rolls or spools 23 and 24. These rolls are housed within cavities 25 formed in the casing l3. The roll 24 is connected with a knob 26 located outside of the casing l3 by which it may be turned for drawing off the strainer strip from the roll 23. The casing I3 is provided with a removable cover 21 which when removed exposes the cavities 25 so that the rolls 23 and 24 may be removed.

The strainer strip 22 is associated with a cover strip 28. This cover strip 28 normally is wound on a roll 29 mounted within another cavity 25 formed in the casing l3. The cover strip 29 extends down the side wall of the passage [4 and engages over and around that portion of the strainer strip 22 which is wound upon the roll 24.

The operation of the device is as follows:

. The scalp massaging member ID is massaged on the scalp. The suction pump 18 draws the dandruff and other particles through the tubular tit II, and these particles are deposited on the strainer strip 22. It is intended that the hair and scalp cleaning machine be used in barber shops and other public places. It is proposed that for each new customer the barber turn the knob 26 so as to extend a new section of the strainer strip 22 across the passage l4. Automatically the old section of the strainer strip 22 will be covered by the cover strip 28 as the knob 26 is turned for turning the roll 24. a

In Fig. 4 a modified form of the invention is disclosed which is very similar to the prior form, distinguishing merely in the fact that a portable motor driven suction pump [8' is adapted to be mounted on a table 20. The hose l5 connects with the suction inlet 20' of the pump I 8'. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to that previously shown and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of the several views.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. In combination with a tube through which air to be filtered is adapted to pass, a casing mounted in said tube and formed with a passage through which the air passes, a strainer strip movably mounted within said casing across said passage for filtering the air passing through said tube, and means for covering the used portions of said strainer strip, said strainer strip being wound on rolls mounted within said casing and located on opposite sides of said passage so that the strainer strip may be moved across from one side to the other to expose a clean area, said means, comprising a cover strip mounted upon a supply roll mounted within said casing and extendin along one wall of said passage and engaging upon one of the rolls supporting said strainer strip.

2. In combination with a tube through which air to be filtered is adapted to pass, a casing mounted in said tube and formed with a passage through which the air passes, a strainer strip movably mounted within said casing across said passage for filtering the air passing through said tube, and means for covering the used portions of said strainer strip, said strainer strip being wound on rolls mounted within said casing and located on opposite sides of said passage so that the strainer strip may be moved across from one side to the other to expose a clean area, said means, comprising a cover strip mounted upon a supply roll mounted within said casing and extending along one wall of said passage and engaging upon one of the rolls supporting said strainer strip, said latter roll being provided with a knob by which it may be manually turned.
