'The collars 21 are formed with 'chamfers 22 at the juncture of their inner endsand 'i'nner peripheriesso that the s'ar'n'esnugly eng'age against 'the shoulders 20 respectively. A coupling member 23 is provided foreach end 'memben'lfl and H which coupling membe'rs are internally threaded throughourttheir'extent and are adapted to threadedly engage over the threaded =out'r ends of the end members 10 "and 'H and tobe tightened against the outer "end edges of the collars 2! for retaining'the collars inpos'ition-lon the end members and said couplin members 23 providing means for lth'read'edly coupling the well screen at its opposite ends ina pipeline.
In order to reinforce the ba rs [4 intermediate the end members 10 and H and to retain the same in circumferentially spaced relation, one or more bands 24 are provided which fit in transverse notches "26 opening throughtheinner edges 21 of the bars l4 at l'on'gitudinally spaced intervals to thereby dispose the inner faces of the bands 24 flushwith theinn'er edges of the bars. One end wall 28 of each ofthe nQtchesZB is disposed in substantially right angular relation withthe plane of theinner edgesllfof the bars M while the opposite end wall 29 of each of the notches is disposed at substantially f30 degrees to the plane of the 'bottom wall of th'e notches. The opposit'eannular end walls "3! and 32 of each of the bands 24 are shaped to conform with the end Walls 28 and 29 of the notches 26 so as to snugly interfit therewith and retain The extremities '18 at ea'ch'end i the bands and the bars in assembled relation since the undercut formation of the end wall 29 of the notches 26 necessitates the bowing of the bars M in order to spring the same into engagement with the bands. The bands are provided with radially disposed outwardly projecting ribs 33 having outwardly converging opposite side faces 34 conforming to the inwardly convergingside faces I of the bars l4 so that the ribs interfit between the bars andspace the same in said circumferential relation. The ribs 33 extend the full width of the bands 24 and are of lesser depth than the thickness of the bars I4 so that the outer faces of the ribs are recessed inwardly of the outer faces of the bars.
What is claimed is: r
1. In a well screen, oppositely disposed externally threaded cylindrical end members each having an annular groove in its outer face adjacent the inner end thereof providing an annular bead extending from said groove to the inner end of the end member, bars having beveled side walls and formed with notches adjacent their opposite ends extending inwardly from their inner edges and receiving therein the annular beads of said end members respectively with the extremities of said bars interfitting in said annular grooves disposing said bars in longitudinally extending relation between and interconnected with said end members, each of said bars having its opposite ends externally rabbeted providing a shoulder disposed in spaced relation to each of said notches respectively, collars slidably fitted upon said end members respectively and engaging in said rabbets and abutting against said shoulders of the said bars so as to overlie the ends of the bars to thereby releasably retain the bars in interfitting relation with the end members, said bars having notches intermediate their opposite ends extending inwardly from their inner edges, a band disposed in said last mentioned notches to thereby releasably retain said bars in circumferential spaced relation and threaded coupling members threadedly engaging over the outer ends of said end members for retaining said collars in position on said end members respectively and providing means for coupling the well screen in a pipe line.
2. In a well screen, oppositely disposed threaded tubular endmembers each having an annular groove in its outer face adjacent the inner end thereof providing an annular bead extending from said groove to the inner end of the end member, bars with inwardly converging side walls and having notches adjacent their opposite ends opening through their inner edges and receiving therein the annular beads of said end members respectively with the extremities of said bars interfitting in said annular grooves to thereby dispose said bars in longitudinally extending relation between and interconnected with said end members, said bars having their opposite ends externally rabbeted providing a shoulder disposed in spaced relation to each of said notches respectively, collars slidably fitted upon said end members respectively and engaging in said rabbets and abutting against said shoulders of said bars so as to overlie the extremities of said bars to thereby releasably retain the bars in interfitting relation with the end members, each of said bars having a notch intermediate the said end members a band fitted in said notches and having projections disposed between the bars to thereby releasably retain the bars in gcircumferential spaced relation and threaded coupling members threadedly engaging over the outer ends of said end members for retaining said collars in position against the shoulders of said bars and providing means for coupling the well screen in a pipe line.
3. In a well screen, oppositely disposed threaded tubular end members each having an annular groove in'its outer face adjacent the inner end thereof and providing an annular bead extending from said groove to the inner end of the end member, longitudinally extending bars having notches adjacent their opposite ends extending inwardly from their inner edges and receiving therein the annular beads of said end members respectively with the extremitie of said bars interfitting in said annular grooves to thereby dispose said bars in longitudinally extending relation between and interconnected with said end members, collars fitted upon said end members respectively and overlying the extremities of said bars to thereby retain the bars in interfitting relation with the end members and threaded coupling members en gaging over the outer ends of said end members respectively for retaining the collars in position and providing means for coupling the well screen in a pipe line.
4. In a well screen, oppositely disposed threaded tubular end members each having an annular groove in its outer face adjacent the innerend thereof and providing an annular bead extending from said groove to the inner end of the end member, bars having notches adjacent their opposite ends extending inwardly from their inner edges in which are received the annular beads of said end members respectively with the extremities of said bars interfitting in said annular grooves to thereby dispose said bars' in longitudinally extending relation between and interconnected with said end members, collars fitted upon said end members respectively and overlying the extremities of said bars to thereby retain the bars in interfitting relation with the end members, means interconnected with said bars intermediate th end members for securing said bars in circumferential spaced relation and threaded'coupling members engaging'over the outer ends of said end members for retaining the collars in position and providing means for coupling screen in a pipe line.
5. In a well screen, oppositely disposed threaded tubular members each having an annular groove in its outer face adjacent the inner end thereof and providing an annular bead extending from said groove to the inner end of said tubular member, bars having notches adjacent their opposite ends extending inwardly from their inner edges and in which are received the annular beads of said tubular members respectively with the extremities of said bars interfitting in said annular grooves to thereby dispose said bars in longitudinally extending relation between and interconnected with said tubular members, collars fitted upon said tubular members respectively and overlying the extremities of said bars to thereby retain the bars in interfitting relation with the tubular members and means engaging with the tubular members for retaining the collars against relative movement away from the bars.
