Description

Oct. 2,1945. H. v. FARMER 2,385,977
MULTIPLE TYPE VACUUM CUPS Filed 0G12. '15, 1943 Patented Oct. 2, 1945 MULTIPLE TYPE VACUUM CUPS Horace V. Famer, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada Application October l5, 1943, Serial N0. 506,434
1 Claim.
This invention relates to holding devices and more particularly to a multiple action holding device whereby the device may be attached to a structure by the means employed and also whereby an object or objects may be held to the vacuum cup in the same manner.
The principle object of the invention is to provide a holder of the class described which is formed integrally and does not require supplementary holding members such as hooks, studs and bolts and the like embedded in the cup of conventional design.
A further object of the invention is a multiple type vacuum cup holderprovided with a means of expelling the air equally from each opposite cup.
Still other objects of the invention are to pro- Vide a multiple holder type 0f vacuum cup, to,
provide an inexpensive holder manufactured integral and to generally provide an improvement inthe art.
With the above noted and other objects in view which may appear as the description proceeds the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of cooperating parts as vhereinafter morel specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing forming part of this application and in which:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of my invention,
Fig. 2 is an end elevational view of the same, and
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing a slight modification of the invention.
Referring more in detail to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate cor-Y responding parts throughout the several views it will be seen that the invention residesin a homogeneous mould such as illustrated in Figs. 1 t0 3.
The body structure is composed of a pair of opposed semi-spherical and air-tight concavities l,
having flexible side walls, adapted to crush, to the end that air may be expelled from the cavity so that the cup will be held by suction to a `body. The concavities I0 are joined by a center portion I2. l p
The center portion I2 is provided with a passage establishing communication between the cups `Il! which will permit the expelling of the air evenly when the concavities Il) are pressed simultaneously between two surfaces, a flexible slotted partition I1 is located in the communicating passage which permits the air to pass gradually from one concavlty to the other when both concavities are pressed simultaneously.
It is believed that the construction and advantages of the structure shown may be apparent from the foregoing paragraphs taken in con- `junction withthe accompanying drawing witho ut further detailed description.
; While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been disclosed it is understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combina.- tion'and arrangement of co-operating parts may be resorted to' within the scope of what is claimed without departing ,from the spirit of the invention. l
I claim:
`A holding device comprising a pair of suction cups, and a central portion connecting the cups together, said central portion having a longitudinal passage therethrough establishing communication between said cups, said passage having an intermediate partition provided with slits to allow air to gradually pass from one cup to the other when the cups are pressed together.
