My invention relates to improvements in wearing apparel, and more particularly to a novel form of muffler which will be worn about the neck of a person in such a manner that there will be an interlocking of the cooperating ends of the muffler, a double thickness of the muffler over the chest of the wearer, and a complete lack of bulkiness at the back of the wearer.

An object of my invention is to provide an improved form of muffler having a curved neck engaging portion and interlocking end portions extending at substantially right angles to each other.

Another object of my invention is to provide an improved form of muffler which will be formed with a curved or cut-out neck engaging central portion, and interlocking ends extending at right angles to each other and being so constructed that when one end of the muffler is pulled across the throat of the wearer until its terminal portion lies in a position slightly behind the wearers ear and therebelow, and the opposite end of the muffler is pulled tightly across the first mentioned end of the muffler, the formation of the muffler will cause an interlocking of the adjusted ends which will hold the muffler in the' desired position with two thicknesses of the material across the wearers chest.

A' further object of my invention is to provide an improved form of muffler having a cut-away centrally disposed neck engaging portion and one end extending laterally therefrom, While the opposite end of the muffler extends downwardly and at right angles to the laterally extending portion, the ends and central portions of the scarf or muffler being preferably knit with a moss stitch, while the interlocking portions of the muffler between the central portion and ends will be ribbed to form 'interlocking and cooperating ribs lying at right angles to each other when the muffler is in position upon a wearers shoulders.

A still further object of my invention is to provide an improved form of muffler having a curved neck engaging portion of reduced thickness and interlocking end portions extending at substantially right angles to each other, together Figure 2 is a rear view of my improved muffler in position about a wearers neck;

Figure 4 is a plan view of my improved muffler made from a piece of silk or rayon or other suitable material.

Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanyin-g drawing to designate corresponding parts.

In carrying out my invention, it will be understood that my improved muffler may be made from any desired material and with various Stitches and ribs, as long as the shape or contour of the muffler is substantially that as clearly shown in the drawing.

I will designate generally the `body of the muffler by the reference numeral l, and a laterally extending end by the numeral 2, while the other end which extends downwardly at substantially `right angles to the end 2, will be designated by the numeral 3. The neck portion or central portion of the muffler is reduced in thickness and is cut away and curved as at 4 to t the back of the wearers neck.

The terminal ends 2 and 3 of the muffler are slightly flared, while the lateral side of the ter--V minal 3, designated -5 extends a considerable distance to the side of the end portion of the central portion of the muffler forming the corner 6. The central portion l of the mumer as well as the terminal ends 2 and 3 are made by using a moss stitch Iwhen the muffler is made. The areas between the central portion I and the terminal ends 2 and y3 of the muffler are ribbed as at 'l and 8. If desired, the additional use of separable fasteners of any type maybe employed as designated by the numerals y9 and I0, to assist in holding the muffler in place. Furthermore, the mufiler may be made from any material such as silk, rayon or the like, as shown by the numeral Il in Figure 4 of the drawing.

In positioning the muffler about a wearers neck, the curved or cut away portion of the mufiler 4 Iwill be placed about the back of the neck, and then the end 6 of the muffler will be pulled across the wearers throat, and positioned below and back of the wearers left ear, whereupon the left hand terminal or end 2 of the muffler'will be brought across the opposite end of the muffler to firmly engage the end 6 just mentioned to hold the same tightly in place. From Figure 1 of the drawing, it will be apparent that when the muffler is in position, the ribs 'l will extend down y to give an attractive V formation across the front of the wearers neck,

Many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit ofthe-invention. l

Having:V thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is: Y"

1. A muier having a central bodyv portion notched to -t the neck of a wearer and havingl terminal end portions, one of said terminal ends extending laterally from the central body portion and being widened with respectthereto, and the other terminal end extending downwardly at sub, stantially right angles to said central body portion and the rst; mentioned terminal end.

2. A muffler having a central body portion notched to t the neck of a wearer and having terminal end portions formed integrally therewith, one of said end portions extending laterally from said central body portion and the other end portion extending on the opposite side of said central body portion and at right angles thereto.

3. A muiiier having a central body portion shapedto conform to theL neck of;l a wearer and having; widened terminal end portions formed integrally therewith and on the opposite sides thereof, one of said end portions extending at right angles to said body portion adapted to be drawn across the throat of the wearer to a point belowy and behind the Wearers ear, and the other terminal end portion being adapted to be crossed over said rstmentioned terminal end portion to holdand interlock the muliler about the neck of a wearer. f
