' 3 Claims. (C1. 223-87) My invention relates to garment hangers and has for an object to provide a garment hanger constructed-largely of paper.
Another object of the invention resides in providing a garment hanger having a frame constructed with a cross frame member and side frame members connected thereto and separable at their ends and in providing a fastener for the free ends of the side frame members adapted to be constructed of paper or other similar iiat stock.
An object of the invention resides in constructing the fastener with a plate-like body provided with at least one tortuous opening therein for the endwise reception of one of the side 4frame members.
A still further object of the inventionresides in constructing the body of the fastener with a shoulder adapted to engage a corresponding shoulder on the frame for securing the fastener to the frame.
Y A feature of the invention resides in providing a construction for holding said shoulders in engagement.
Another object of the invention resides in forming on the fastener a lug having a shoulder and in constructing the side frame member with a slot for the reception of the lug and forming a shoulder for engagement with the shoulder on the fastener.
. Another object of the invention resides in providingon the fastener a finger for engagementv with the side frame member to hold the lug within the slot.
Another object of the invention resides in providing a supporting hook for the garment hanger constructed of paper 4and in further providing fastening means secured to the hook for connecting the free ends of the side frame members oi the garment hanger together.
Other objects of the invention reside in the novel combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter illustrated and/or described.
. In the drawing:
Fig. -1 is a perspective View of a garment hanger illustrating an embodiment of my invention.
.Fig 2 is a View similar to Fig. 1 showing the parts partly assembled.
Fig. 3 is an elevational sectional View taken on line3-3 of Fig. l and, drawn to a greater scale.
4 is an elevational sectional view taken on line4-4 of Fig. 3 and drawn to a lesser scale.
My invention comprises a frame indicated in its entirety by the reference numeral I I von which the garments are supported and a supporting member I2 for supporting the garment hanger on 'a hook, rod,- or other suitable support. These parts will now be described in detail.
The frame I I consists of a cross frame member I3 and side frame members `I4 and I5 hingedly connected therewith. The frame members I4 and I5 are separable at their outer ends and are adapted to swing from an extended position such as shown in Fig. 1 to a collapsed position in which the said frame members'all overlie one another. The frame II is preferably constructed from paper which is formed U-shapedin cross-section to provide each of said frame members with a web 36 and anges 31 extending outwardly therefrom. The stock from which the frame I l is constructed is scored transversely'to provide hinges I6 between the frame members I4 and I5 and the frame member I3. Frame II is preferably constructed as disclosed in the patent to Reynolds Guyer et al., No. 2,164,207, issued June 27, 1939.
The supporting member 1 2 is constructed from a blank formed from a sheet of heavy paper or paper board and comprising a fastener I8 having a hook I9 connected thereto and integral there.- with.' The hook I9 has a hook portion 2I adapted to be hooked over a rod or other supporting structure and a shank 22 which connects the same to the fastener I8. The fastener I 8 has a body 23 of appreciable width at the lowermost portion` thereof and by means of which the fastener is secured to the side frame members I4 and I5.
The following construction is employed forsecuring the fastener I8 to the side frame members I4 and I 5 and is best shown in Figs. 2 and 4; In-
asmuch as the construction employedfcr eachy side member isidentical, only that used in conjunction with the frame member I5 will be described in detail. This construction utilizes an elongated opening 24 formed in the body 23 of fastener I8 which extends through the edge 25' thereof as indicated at 26, leaving said opening open at its outer end. A similar opening 21 is formed on the opposite side of the 'body 23 which serves a purpose` similar to that of opening 24.`
These openings terminate short of one another to provide a butt 28 and a neck 29 between said openings which neck connects the butt with the` portion of the body 23 from which the hook I9 issues. On the butt 28 is formed a lug 3l which Vhas a transversely extending shoulder 32 on the upper end thereof. Opposite the lug 3I, the opening 24 is constructed with a bight 33. The
opening 24 provides in the portion of the body 23 1 above the butt 28 a finger 34 which is spaced from the butt 28 and which lies opposite a small depression 35 in said butt. The opening 21 is of exactly the same form as the opening 24.
The web 36 of the side frame member I5 is constructed at its end with a longitudinally exvtending notch 38 of a. width slightly greater than the thickness of the stock from which the supl porting member I2 is constructed. l The said web of the frame member I5 is also constructed with a slot vof the same width as the notch 38 which is in alignment with said slot and spaced there-
