Anobject of the present invention is to provide a device primarily adapted to eliminate the great amount of motion performed by the arm.of a
. person polishing an" automobile by means of-a cloth held in the hand, and thus eliminate the consequent fatigue.
Such a-device must be light, of simple'design, have few parts, and the polismng surface must be replaceable at low cost.

The lug consists of thehead 52, which has a slot 53 and is covered with a nappy material 54 as shown in Figure 9. The head is carried on a body 50, the other end of which carries a transverse bar 41 the same width as the body .50, the length and width of bar 41 being adapted to pass through hole 31 in locking circle 3| as shown in Figure 8. The inner surface 43 of the bar constitutes segments of 'a cone, and correfSpOndS to the rear surfaces 33 of the convex portions of the locking circle, and rests therein in operation. As-shown at 40, Figures 14 and 15,.

It will be observed that the locking lug 46 and face piece 33 are not only both cloth covered, but are also recessed in the polishing disc 55 so that it is impossible for them to scratch the finish of an automobile or other article being polished. I
It is also evident that the polishing 'disc may be very cheaply manufactured and is theonly part subject to even moderate deterioration, and
are of'simple and inexpensive design. The polishing disc may be considered disposable in the truest sense, as it consists merely of sewn cloth, having no metal parts or fittings to add to its cost.
It is apparent that the specific illustrations shown above have been given by way of illustration only and not by way'of'limitation, and a that the structures above described are subject to wide variation and modification without departing from the scope or intent of the invention, all of which variations and modifications are to be included within the scope of the present invention.
What is claimed is:
- 1. A portable apparatus for polishing and the like comprising an electric motor, said motor comprising amotor shaft, a fastener firmly mounted on said shaft, said fastener comprising a rim portion and a cylindrical portion concentric with said rim portion, a locking circle firmly attached to said fastener, said locking circle comprising a resilient disc and a plurality ofpoints substantially on the periphery of said disc and extending'perpendicularly thereto. said disc comprising a central portion depressed in thereof, a polishing ing a substantially stiff disc,-said stiif disc being formed with a central hole, a lug extending through said hole, said lug comprising a head, a
