readily transported so as to be useful on vacations or trips, and which may mum cost and be of such construction so that it may be readily assembled or disassembled. .A further object of this invention is to provide an. auxiliary bed construction which will avoid the purchase of'a childs size mattress or spring; and enable the use of the bed in its usual manner for be manufactured at mini-' adults by the simple and ready removal of the bed guard. It is a further aim of this invention to provide a structure that is capable of adjustment and adaptability to beds of various sizes.

The more specific objects and advantages will become apparent from the consideration of the accompanying embodiment.

Referring specifically to' the drawings wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, a bed is shown in Figure 1 having four legs, 2 and 5. a 1 i The bed I is to be taken as conventional and representative of a daybed or of one of a pair of twin beds or of a small size bed and initself constitutes'no part of any invention but to explain its use and coaction with my invention.

In carrying out my invention, I arrange the bed I in one corner of. a room wherein one side edge of the bed and one end wall of the bed as shown in Figure 11. approximately touch the adjacent side wall and end wall of the room, so that a guard is required for, only the other two sides which are not in the corner of the said room.

My invention consists essentially of a side wall section generally designated Mand a cross bed or end wall section-generally designated 43, the same being collapsible or foldably connected together with hinges in and when unfolded and positioned as shown in Figure l, coacting to form guards for the bed i and thus provide in combination 'with the bed i, a crib or sleeping structure for achild or infant.

' The side wall or guard 42 may consist of end posts 4 and 23 joined by connecting strips l1 and i8. Post 23 is connected by hinges iii to strip 22B. The latter in turn is fixed to strips 22 and HA; which in' turn are connected-by bolts to sections 29, 29A and which in turn are connected to post it. Drop section 59A is connected to board H by hinges l6 and strips iii-49A have the spaces between them divided by rods H, or the like at suitable distances. Strips 22-226. are likewise dithe like, at suitable distances.

In' order that the side wall 42 may be foldable in relation to the end or cross bed wall 43, the two are connected by hinges H) as is also further indicated in Figure 2.

I In order to detachably connect the post E' against displacement to'one of the bed legs 6.;1 provide a detachable auxiliary post I of a length to extend materially above the bed I, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5, and'fasten it incontact with one of the legst.

This auxiliary post I may have pairs of, resilient tions of the strips,

clasping fingers 26, or straps with buckles, or the like, whereby it may clasp or detachably connect one of the legs 6. The upper end of the auxiliary post 1 is provided with a pintle or the like 24,. The guard or side section 42 is placed against the side of the bed as shown in Figures 1 and 6 and one post 4 has a hinged loop 21 or equivalent thereon which is slideably applicable for the pintle 24 to thus connect the guard 42 to the bed I Such guard section 42 is adjustable as to height since it has elements 5A, functioning as pedestals, adjustably connected to the lower end of the post 23 and post 4 by a screwthreaded shank 5A engaging correspondingly threaded sockets GA.

Reverting to the end or cross bed section 48,

it has end posts I4 and 23 joined by strips 22 and 22A, with rods l5 secured thereto and disposed 'between them at any suitable distance with strips 22 and 22--A held firmly together by end piece 22B. Post 23 is preferably hinged as at M to vertical'strip 22B of the cross bed piece 43, so that when the parts are disassembled, they may be folded fiat upon each other. Also, the

post i4 while it need not extend to the floor,

and it is intended not to extend to the floor, but only-so far as to grip the far side of the bed, does extend below the opposing surface of the bed i to thereby prevent-swinging of the cross bed or end section relative to the other guard on the hinges iii.

In order that the end or cross bed section 48 be adjustable as to'width. to accommodate beds I of different sizes, suitable means to attain this end may be used as shown in Figures 1, 2, 9 and 10. The strips 22-22A may be in sections connected to'sections 2929A by means of suitable bolts II which pass through slots 12 in the secadjacent strips, may be elongated as shown in Figure 2, to facilitate the adjustment mentioned.

Another suitable means to obtain adjustment and at the same time strengthen the strips is by using a pair of parallel metal sections fixed to post 14 as set forth in Figure 7. The curvededges 28 of the sections 290 wouldthen fit around the strips 22 and 22-A to hold them firmly, it being intended that the bolts i I pass through both the strips 22 and 22-A and the metal strips through the slot 30 of each section 290. Y

In 'cases where abed is used with but two sides as in Figure land the bed has a high headpiece, I may attach a pintle thereto as shown in Figure 11. Such head-piece is designated 34 and the pintle 32, the same being of wood or metal and attached by screws to the head-piece 34. The hinged loop 33 on post 4 as in Figure 12, will function identicallylike the hinged loop 21 in Figure 6 and theauxiliary corner post 1 in Figure 6 is dispensed with.

Various changes may be resorted to within the spis'itand scope of the invention. For instance, as shown in Figure 9, I may employ guards at 4 sides of the childs sleeping area instead of two as in Figure l.

Additionally, I use an end guard unit generally designated H as an end or cross bed section which corresponds to that used as the cross bed section 43 and accordingly the same reference characters are applied to the parts thereof. 'When four sides are used the leg A is cutoff flush with top of the bed i and the guard is held in position as in Figure 9 by the adjustment against displacement of the width of the cross-pieces by bolts ll. Legs l4 and "A are fixed together by wagon bolts I 5 provided with wing nuts SI, as shown in Figs. 9 and 10.

As various possible improvements might be made to the above invention and as various changes may be made in the improvement above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. An auxiliary bed construction to be applied to a bed to limit reposing space thereon for an infant and to guard against the infants falling from the bed, and comprising a guard wall adapted to extend along one side of the bed, and having legs to rest on the floor, and a second extensible guard wall pivoted at one end to one end of the first guard wall and adapted to extend transversely across the bed to rest thereon, and means on the second guard wall extending downwardly therefrom adapted to engage an opposite side of the bed.

2. An auxiliary bed construction to be applied to a bed to limit reposing space thereon for an guard wall adapted to extend along one side-of the bed, and having legs to rest on the floor, and a second extensible guard wall pivoted at one end to one end or the first guard wall and adapted to extend transversely across the bed to rest thereon, means on the second guard wall extending downwardly therefrom adapted to engage an opposite side of the bed, and means on the first guard wall to adjust the height thereof.

3. An auxiliary bed construction to be applied to limit reposing space thereon for an infant and to guard against the infant's falling from the bed, and comprising a guard wall adapted to extend along one side of the bed, and having legs to rest on the floor, a second extensible guard wall hinged at one end to one .end of the first guard wall and adapted to extend across the bed and rest thereon, means at the opposite end of said second guard wall extending downwardly therefrom, adapted to engage an opposite side of the bed, said first guard wall having a section hinged at its lower edge to said guard wall, and means to retain said section in the plane of said first guard wall. lg An auxiliary bed construction to be applied to a bed to limit reposing-space thereon for an infant and to guard against the infant's falling from the bed, and comprising a guard wail adapted to extend along one side of the bed, and having legs to rest on the floor, and a second extensible guard wall pivoted at one end to one end of the first guard wall and adapted to extend across the bed to rest thereon, means on the secand means to adapted'to engage an opposite side or the bed, and means to attach a leg of the first guardwall to a leg of the bed.

5. An auxiliary bed construction to be applied to a bed to limit reposing space thereon for an infant and to guard against the infant's falling from the bed, and comprising a guard wall adapted to extend along one side of the bed, and I having legs to rest on the floor, andasecond ex-i tensible guard wall pivoted at one end to one end of the first guard wall and adapted to extend across the bed to rest thereon, means on the second guard wall extending downwardly therefrom adapted to engage an opposite side of the bed, a post adapted to be attached to a leg 0! thebed, attach saidpost to the first guard wall.

6. An auxiliary bed construction to be applied to a bed to limit reposing space thereon for an infant and to guard against the infant's fallin from the bed, and comprising a guard wall adapted to extend along one side of the bed, and having legs torest on the floor, and a second extensible guard wall pivoted at one end to one end of the first guard wall and adapted to extend across the bed to-rest thereon, means on the second guard wall extending downwardly therefrom adapted to engage an opposite side or the bed, a

7. An auxiliary bed construction to be applied to a bed to limit reposing space thereon for an infant and to guard against the infant's falling ,rrom the bed, and comprising a guard wall adapted to extend along one wall or the bed, andtensible guard wall pivoted at one end of one end of the. first guard wall, and adapted to extend entirely across the bed, said second guard wall and adapted to engage an opposite side of the bed to prevent swinging movement of the second guard wall relative to the first guard wall.

8. An auxiliary bed construction comprising a pair of parallel side guard walls adapted to run along opposite sides or a bed and having legs to rest on the floor, and 'a pair of parallel end guard wall adapted to be disposed transversely of the bed, and above the same, one end wall being hinged at one end to one end of one side Wall, and the other end wall being hinged at one end to one end of the opposite side wall, means to attach the other ends of said end walls to the other ends of said side walls, said end walls being adjustable in length.

9. An auxiliary bed construction comprising a pair of parallel side guard walls adapted to run along-opposite sides of a bed and having legs to 25 rest on the floor, and a pair of parallel end guard walls adapted to be disposed transversely of the bed, and above thesame, one end wall being hinged at one end to one end of one side wall, and

the other end wall being hinged at one end to 30 one end of theopposite side wall, means to attach the other ends or said end walls to the other ends of said side walls, said end walls being adiustable in length, said side walls each having a section swingable downwardly about its lower as edge, and means to maintain said sections in the planes of their respective side walls.
