9 Claims. -(o1. ail-119ml) This invention relates tonew and useful improvements inaclothes line reel. i
More specifically, the invention proposes a clothes line reel which includes a tubular casing housing a spring roller provided witha plurality of lines extending from the spring roller through the casing. It is proposed that these lines be connected with a rod provided with means for detachably connecting same with brackets mounted upon an opposed wall. The invention proposes a novel arrangement for supporting the tubular casing and the rod so that both may be extended into a loweredposition in which it is convenient to place clothes upon theline and which may then be raised out of the way. The invention further contemplates a novel arrangement for locking the lines in selected extended positions.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the-appended claims in which the variousnovel features of the invention are more particularly set forth. In the accompanying drawings forming a ma: terial part of this disclosure: H
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary transverse sectional view of a pair of opposed walls with a clothes line reel constructed in accordance with this invention. Q
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary horizontal view of Fig. 1.
Fig. '3 is an enlarged horizontal sectional viewtaken on the line 3- 3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a transverse enlarged sectional-view taken on the line 4-4 ofFig; 2. p I v Fig. 5 is a'fragmen-tary enlarged transverse sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Fig. '6 is a fragmentaryenlarged transverse vertical sectional view taken on the line 66 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 7 r 7 taken on the line 'T-'| of Fig. 1. v
Fig. 8 is an elevational view of one ofthe braol ets used in this device. Fig. 9 is a similar view to Fig. 8, showing the clothes line arm in position, 1 Fig. 10 is a sectional view m w ofFig. 1. The clothes line reel, according to-this inventaken on the line tion, includes a transverse tubular casing 25. .A
I .A plurality of lines 32 are wound upon the spring. roller '26 and project-through an open side 33 formed in the casing'25. The edges of the open side 33 are bent outwards into flange portionsf34. This slide 35 has window openings 36 through which the lines 32 pass. The lines 32 are connected transversely to each other within the casing '25, by a Wire 32*, near the end of the lines, where they are joined to the roller 26, to prevent the lines from being disconnected from the spring roller under the strain.
The spring roller 26 is associated with "means fen-locking it against rotation when this is desired. This means includes a plurality of pins 3'! arranged concentrically of the spring roller 26, upon one of its ends. A latch 38 is pivotal-1y mounted by a 'pintle 39 upon the adjacent cylinder 28. This latch 38 has a hook end 40 selectively engageable with thepins 31 for holding the spring roller 25' from turning. The latch 38 is provided with an upwardly projecting tail end 4| which passes out from a' slot 42 formed in the casing 25.
' A lock ring 43 is non-rotatively mounted on the casing 25 and is provided with a projecting lug 44 which may be engaged behind the tail portion l-l of the latch 39 for holding the latch in its latching position. The .ring 43 has end portions 45 which engage into the side openings 33 of the casing 25 for holding the ring 43 non-rotative. However, the ring 43 may be slid longitudinally of the casing 25. As illustrated in Figs. 2 and' l the projection 44 engages behind the tail end 1M holding the latch 38 closed. The ring 43 may be slipped longitudinally of the casing 25 so as to move the projection 44 free of the tail end 4|. Then the tail end 4| may be moved for pivoting the latch 38 into an opening position in which the hook portion is disengaged from the pins 3.7. Othersuitable means .fo-r locking the spring roller may also be provided.
The outer .ends ,of the line 32. are connected witha rod 41. The rod 47 and the casing 25 are each attached to apai-r' of lugs 43 through a hinge 18 and slidably engaged wi'thin arms 49 and secured at various set positions by screws 59 each passing through groove 5| formed in the lugs 43 and in groove 52 of the arms 49. Each arm 49 i provided with a hinged vertical leaf 53', adapted to slidably engage into a tapered socket 54 of a wall bracket 55. This arrangement permits the rod 41 and the casing 25 to be lifted and locked when the line is not being lar casing 25 and the rod 41 are in their lowered position. It is an easy matter to reach the lines 32 and to engage clothes on the lines. The lines are slightly slacked a sufficient amount so that the arms 48 and 49 may be moved to the vertical position, indicated by the dot and the dash lines in Fig. 1, in which position the casing 25 and the rod 41 are raised so that the lines 32 are elevated and in a taut position.
The lines 32 are looked, as desired, when the casing 25 is in its lowered or raised positions by engaging the latch '38 upon one of the pins 31 and slipping the projection 44 behind the tail 4| of the latch 38.
The adjustable arms 48 and 49 may be latched in their vertical position by moving them to their vertical position and engaging the hook-studs 51 through the slots 56 and then lowering the vertical leaf 53 into the tapered socket 54 which will hold the arms 48 and 49.
If desired, the screws 50 may be opened and the sections 48 and 49 may then be extended and retracted. When desired, the rod 41 may be disconnected from the lug 48 by pulling the plunger pin 47a outwardly, and the latch 38 may be opened and then the spring roller 26 will wind up the lines 32 until the rod 41 is in intimate contact with the side of the casing 25.
